“Medicine people! Medicine people!”

The recent mutual slaughter had left many residents with wounds so deep that their gleaming white bones were exposed.

One burly man’s eyeball had even sagged out of its socket, dangling precariously beyond the rim.

Yet even that could not stop the purple light in their eyes from burning with desire for the “medicine people.”

Crack!

After dozens of blows from Ji Linmo, the baseball bat in his hands suddenly split in two.

“Fall back! Keep retreating!”

Dropping the broken bat, Ji Linmo covered Liu Xiaoxiao as they withdrew.

Their only option now was to let Liu Xiaoxiao escape alone.

But the road to the gymnasium was long, and far from safe.

After all, out in the open, Liu Xiaoxiao’s stamina was limited. How long could she possibly outrun this pack of “living dead”?

Just as he was at a loss, Ji Linmo suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance.

It was Qin Feng.

The young man stood amid the frenzied “mob,” watching him with a half-smile.

[Mr. Ji, do you need my help?]

At that moment, Ji Linmo saw the words formed by the young man’s lips.

[I can help you.]

After mouthing those words, Qin Feng narrowed his beautiful, almond-shaped eyes into twin crescent moons.

It was a perfectly reasonable bargain. If Qin Feng joined the fight, everything would be resolved.

Ji Linmo had no time to think. A knife stabbed toward his eye.

He jerked aside. The blade grazed his cheek, leaving a deep wound.

Should he accept the deal?

He himself did not need to fear injury, but Liu Xiaoxiao was different.

The slightest mishap could cause her to miscarry from the impact, leaving her unable to move and costing her life right there.

Just then—

“Big brother! That person has a vehicle!”

Liu Xiaoxiao suddenly shouted, pointing at a van that had just emerged from a side road.

More than twenty people climbed out of the small van, carrying steel rods and cleavers, and charged toward them with murderous expressions.

Ji Linmo had excellent eyesight. He saw that the van’s keys were still in the ignition.

“Take it! You run that way—I’ll follow!”

At that moment, hope flared once more.

Liu Xiaoxiao seized a cleaver and sprinted with all her might, while Ji Linmo brought up the rear.

Now that he had recovered his triangular bayonet, his strikes were swift and precise, driving straight toward the “mobs’” eyes.

“Damn you! You can’t even catch one little girl and one pretty boy!”

The fat man with the great cleaver, one of the van’s occupants, hurled abuse at them.

But the instant he raised his weapon and charged, he froze.

Before him stood a “blood man,” drenched from head to toe, his dark eyes cold and merciless.

Whoosh—

Wind screamed past the fat man’s ear. Before he could react, a sudden heat flooded his vision, and he collapsed to his knees.

Ji Linmo expressionlessly pulled out the bayonet.

“Ahhh! My eyes! You little bastard!”

The fat man had barely finished roaring before the man kicked him away.

“Get in! Start the engine first!”

Ji Linmo had no time to wipe the blood from his face. He opened the door and shielded Liu Xiaoxiao as she climbed in first.

But the moment he jumped into the van himself, countless hands seized the doors.

Without hesitation, Ji Linmo slammed his foot onto the accelerator.

The small van’s engine roared to life. It shot forward, dragging several people who had clung to the doors to the ground.

“Woohoo! Big brother, did you see that? So many people were chasing us, and we just hacked our way through them and killed them all! And we even escaped!”

Covered in blood, Liu Xiaoxiao was wildly excited. She waved her arms and bounced like a child, eagerly sharing her triumph with Ji Linmo.

The man, however, paid no attention to her delight. With one hand on the steering wheel, he sped down the rough road, his face expressionless.

With a beautiful S-curve drift, the van slipped past several cars and the thugs blocking its way.

Under the man’s control, the battered van had become a toy in skilled hands, darting effortlessly through the surrounding vehicles and crowds.

“That was amazing! Big brother, do you play that racing game all the time?”

Liu Xiaoxiao excitedly rolled down the window and raised her middle finger at the vehicles pursuing them.

The horns outside immediately grew even more furious.

“Don’t stick your hand out.”

Ji Linmo glanced at the rearview mirror, then looked toward the fuel gauge.

The van was almost out of gas.

It probably had no more than ten minutes left.

“Liu Xiaoxiao, take the phone from my pocket and see what time it is.”

Obediently, Liu Xiaoxiao pulled the phone from Ji Linmo’s pocket.

It was already past nine in the evening.

“Brother Ji Linmo, it’s nine fifty-seven p.m.”

The 21:59 displayed on the phone screen was especially conspicuous.

Only one minute remained until ten. Time really did pass quickly.

That was what Ji Linmo was thinking when he turned to glance at the phone. But in that instant, his eyes widened.

The phone showed that five minutes earlier, his “younger sister” had sent him a message.

[Younger Sister]

[Brother, where are you?]

How was that possible? His “younger sister’s” phone was clearly in his possession!

Ji Linmo’s pupils suddenly contracted as he pulled another red phone from his pocket.

That was right… he had made a mistake.

The phone he had taken from “Mother” did not belong to his “younger sister.”

It was his mother’s phone.

“Liu Xiaoxiao! You drive—”

Ji Linmo stepped on the brake, rapidly reducing the van’s speed from one hundred and twenty kilometers per hour to first gear.

But then his phone began to vibrate.

Ring, ring—

[Younger Sister]

[Good night, big brother.]

At that instant, the time on the phone changed to 10:00.

Before Ji Linmo could say another word, darkness swallowed his vision, and he fell into a deep sleep.

The van immediately began to sway, its steering wheel lurching wildly from side to side.

“What?! Big brother, don’t fall asleep! I can’t drive! I’ve failed the written driving test for three whole years!”

Liu Xiaoxiao screamed in panic. She grabbed Ji Linmo by the shoulder and shook him desperately, but the man seemed trapped in a nightmare and could not be roused.

“I’m doomed! I’m doomed! I’m going to die! I can’t even find my glasses! Sis, wake up and help me drive!”

Liu Xiaoxiao clutched her head and wailed. But there was nothing she could do. She could only stretch out her leg and press the van’s brake.

Yet only a few minutes after the vehicle stopped, a rumbling engine sounded in the distance.

Liu Xiaoxiao raised her head. Three people climbed out of a car that had stopped nearby.

She immediately picked up the triangular bayonet Ji Linmo had left inside the van and smiled.

“Ha-ha-ha! It’s only three little trash bags. I can handle them!”

But in the next second, more than thirty people leaped out of a small truck beside them.

The smile on Liu Xiaoxiao’s face instantly froze.
