Chapter 150: Lin Bufei, You!
Lin Bufei looked at the crowd, righteous and stern.
"Hehehe, seriously, Wu Suowei, I've helped you out quite a bit in the past, and even got heavily beaten up by you. Consider those items as compensation for the beating I took!"
A vein throbbed on Ji Linmo’s forehead; he wished he could strangle Lin Bufei right then and there.
This guy simply shouldn't open his mouth. Such an unreliable jerk—he should have let Wu Suowei and his gang beat him up a few more times back then.
Seeing Lin Bufei’s punchable face, Wu Suowei’s gang were all filled with righteous indignation.
However, Wu Suowei spoke up once more, stopping his angry subordinates.
"Ji Linmo, if you plan to accept my proposal, take a short break. In one hour, gather three people and wait for me at the fifth alley entrance, by the evil ghost holding a rag doll. We are going to play its game."
With that, Wu Suowei stepped back first and left with his subordinates.
"Mr. Ji, do you plan to participate?"
Qin Feng smiled and asked Ji Linmo.
After briefly analyzing the pros and cons for the teenager, Ji Linmo nodded as if he agreed.
"Alright then~ Mr. Ji, I respect your decision~"
"Before that, though, I plan to go scout out that fifth game. If you don't mind, you can stay here and catch up with Lin Bufei, oh~"
Having said that, Qin Feng considerately cleared the space for the two of them and left first.
"Wait... wait..."
Never had there been a moment when Ji Linmo wished so much that the teenager would stay, because he could already feel the scorching gaze fixed upon him by Lin Bufei.
Almost the instant the teenager vanished into the mouth of the alley, Lin Bufei grabbed Ji Linmo by the collar and let out a monkey-like screech.
"Hey, hey, hey! A dog leash? What kind of dog leash, why does that sound so perverted? No... you're both adults, what on earth happened? Wow, could it be that thing?! You guys are so wild, how shy! Ji Linmo, I really misjudged you, I had no idea!"
Watching Lin Bufei revel in his misfortune and beam with joy, Ji Linmo decided to let his brain go blank and let his body sway back and forth as the other man grabbed his collar.
——Brain.exe (Not Responding)
It was time for his mind to go on strike. Right now, he really didn't want to say anything at all—he just wanted to smash Lin Bufei's head against something and be done with it.
"Cough... I told you long ago, that kid with the surname Qin is a lunatic, you have to be careful."
With that, Lin Bufei looked around vigilantly, terrified of being overheard by someone again.
However, after laughing it off, the man with the huge scar running across his face regained his serious expression.
"Seriously though, are you alright? Not long after this instance started, I ran into Liu Xiao and found out quite a bit about your situation..."
"I heard you two fought, and it was pretty intense. But looking at your state, needless to say, you must have lost miserably."
Lin Bufei craftily fished a cigarette out of his pocket and poked Ji Linmo in the shoulder.
"Hehehe, you've really hit rock bottom, want one?"
Ji Linmo didn't speak, naturally taking the cigarette.
As the flame danced on the tip of the cigarette, the man slowly exhaled a puff of white smoke, his tightly furrowed brow gradually relaxing.
"What do you plan to do next? Even though we might die any day now, we still have to think about it."
Ji Linmo held the cigarette between his fingers, puffing away. His expression looked thoroughly indistinct amidst the curling wisps of white smoke.
"Who knows. I just discovered that Qin Feng has some sort of... familial relationship with me. After all, he's young, so I plan to stick to my original plan and stay by his side to escort him."
Lin Bufei also took a sip of his cigarette and blew a few smoke rings.
The smoke rings, big and small, looked like acrobatics, one nested inside another, remarkably amusing.
Anyone could tell that this kid Lin Bufei was an old chain-smoker.
"Familial relationship, hehehe, could he possibly be your distant relative?"
Ji Linmo didn't speak, just silently smoking his cigarette.
"Ji Linmo, did you know? Liu Xiao forbade me from interacting with Liu Xiaoxiao."
Huh?
Lin Bufei’s sudden remark made Ji Linmo freeze abruptly.
What was going on here? Had they formed a league of losers?
"It's better if you aren't together. Neither of them are normal people anyway... There's no possibility between you two."
Thinking of what Liu Xiao looked like after turning into a monster, and how she switched personalities via her glasses on a whim, Ji Linmo felt it was actually a good thing they had no ties.
"But before ordering us to stop all contact, Liu Xiao told me a story."
"She said that everything in the Thriller World was created by the great Abyss God..."
The scarred man began to recount the story he had heard.
[The Great Abyss is the supreme and sole true God, surrounded by five loyal dependents, singing hymns to its achievements day and night.]
[And the five most loyal dependents are Death, Disease, War, Evasion, and Hunger.]
[Death possesses the mightiest power; none do not dread the terror of death.]
[Hunger holds the lowestly status; in domains littered with corpses, it is responsible only for disposing of the dead.]
[Yet every dependent fulfills its own duty, content with its station, serving the Abyss.]
[But one day, Death vanished.]
[And on the day Death vanished, Hunger vanished as well.]
[From that day forth, the dependents disappeared one by one, and even the Great Abyss ceased its summons, sinking into profound silence.]
[Where had the Abyss gone?]
[The last surviving dependent, the most devout "Evasion," built the Abyss upon this land, searching for the traces of the God.]
[At last, she discovered that the very last person tainted with the aura of the Abyss was the Miracle-Bearer.]
[She knew that man must have seen the Great True God.]
[Therefore, for Liu Xiaoxiao's sake, for the sake of the Abyss—Lin Bufei, can you help me bring Ji Linmo over?]
"Lao Ji... do me a favor. I didn't mean to harm you, I just... want you to help me out."
Ji Linmo widened his eyes; the ending of the story Lin Bufei told was entirely unexpected.
Even more unexpected, however, was that countless black dots flashed across his vision, making his field of view begin to blur.
"Lin... Lin Bufei?"
Ji Linmo's body went soft, his footsteps turning feeble as he leaned against the base of the wall.
The cigarette... the cigarette was spiked...
"Damn it... Lin Bufei... you!"
Ji Linmo waved both hands, sending a flying knife hurtling toward Lin Bufei's face.
Yet the wobbling flying knife merely grazed the man's collar before dropping uselessly to the ground.
"Lao Ji... don't be angry... really... I never intended to harm you. We've known each other since we were kids, trust me just this once..."
Usually utterly unreliable, Lin Bufei panicked slightly when he saw the hatred radiating from Ji Linmo's eyes.
Yet he finally sighed, propped up the dazed Ji Linmo whose consciousness was beginning to scatter, and dragged him shakily to his feet.
"Lao Ji... that little lunatic hated me, and she was right."
"Because I am a member of the Abyss."
