Chapter 60 If You Won't Wear It, Neither Will I
“Sigh~ Is it because our rings are a matching pair, and wedding bands at that, that you’re too embarrassed to wear yours?”
“Wow, Mr. Ji, you’re the top miracle worker among us, yet I didn’t expect you to be so old-fashioned. It’s just a prop ring, nothing special about it, and still you’re being so stuffy~”
Watching the boy’s dazzling, radiant smile, Ji Linmo couldn’t help but press a weary hand to his forehead again.
This kid really does take every opportunity to get under my skin…
“Don’t show off too much. Put it away at once. If you flash it around, you’ll become a target. That’s an S-level item.”
Ji Linmo frowned, gesturing for Qin Feng to stow the item in his inventory.
He knew all too well how many people would covet an S-level offensive item.
“Then, Mr. Ji, how about this: if you wear your ring from now on, I’ll consider not flaunting mine. How does that sound?”
Qin Feng seemed quite insistent about having Ji Linmo wear the ring, unwilling to back down in the slightest.
“I already told you, I’m not wearing it…”
“Then I’ll just keep wearing mine all the time~”
Qin Feng flashed Ji Linmo a mischievous grin and stuck out his tongue.
Ji Linmo jabbed a finger at Qin Feng, pointing at him with a stern glare.
He finally understood—Qin Feng was playing him on purpose.
Why on earth would two grown men wear wedding bands?
“Fine, you stubborn brat. If you insist on wearing it, then go ahead. But if you do, I’ll never put mine on, not even in death.”
With that, Ji Linmo rose to his feet and strode quickly toward the convenience store the clerk had mentioned earlier.
[Urgent Hiring]
[Big-Eye Monster Convenience Store Seeks 8 Sales Clerks]
[Salary: Negotiable]
[Interview Requirement: No Other Identity]
The convenience store before them was festooned with human eyeballs everywhere.
Whenever someone entered, all the eyes would swivel to follow them.
Ji Linmo looked at the black-and-white sign, the ink still dripping down the paper, and glanced over at Qin Feng not far away.
“Stop fooling around and get over here.”
Qin Feng shrugged, finally strolling over at a leisurely pace.
Both of them took off their current uniforms, stripped to the waist, and entered the shop.
“Interviewing? Another pair running around half-naked, huh? Go squat by the shelves.”
Before they could even speak, the cashier jerked his chin, signaling the two of them to crouch beside the display shelves.
“Mr. Ji, are you really not going to—”
Qin Feng raised his hand, flashing the ring again, but before he could finish his sentence, Ji Linmo seized his hand, his expression cold as he looked over toward the shelves.
“We’re all here for the job—why don’t we introduce ourselves?”
After a brief silence, four men and two women, all stripped down to their undergarments, slowly emerged from behind the shelves.
“Hey there, handsome guys. We’re also players in this round—we just arrived about ten minutes ago,” said a woman with a trim figure and short hair, speaking up first.
“Since we’re all applying at the same store, why don’t we relax a bit?”
Ji Linmo remained silent, sizing up the group with a calm, indifferent gaze.
Among the four men and two women, four of them looked relaxed and unruffled—clearly seasoned veterans.
But one boy wearing glasses, who seemed quite young, looked extremely nervous.
He clung tightly to the hand of the girl beside him, who was also visibly anxious, her hair tied back in a ponytail.
Students?
Ji Linmo didn’t speak, but signaled Qin Feng with a glance.
—Put that ring away and stop provoking me!
Qin Feng, as always, gave him a cheerful smile.
—No way, not unless you agree to wear yours too.
“Miss, your eye makeup is beautiful.”
In the next instant, Qin Feng shook off Ji Linmo’s grip on his wrist and walked over to the short-haired woman, beaming as he extended his hand.
“My name is Qin Feng. I just turned eighteen and haven’t been playing the game very long.”
“You don’t look nervous at all—you must have played many games. I hope I can be as confident as you.”
“Oh, I’ve just been lucky enough to survive this long,” the woman replied warmly, shaking his hand.
“Little brother, I’m Li Juan’er. You can just call me Sister Li.”
But when her gaze landed on the massive diamond ring on Qin Feng’s ring finger, she froze. The muscles in her face twitched uncontrollably, like a boulder dropped from the sky into a tranquil pond, setting off a tsunami of emotion.
“S—S—S-level item?”
The others, hearing Li Juan’er’s voice, hurried over.
“What?!”
They stared, dumbfounded, at Qin Feng.
No one could believe that such a young kid could possess an S-level item.
“Kid… just how many S-level dungeons have you cleared?”
Li Juan’er’s voice was hoarse, her eyes locked on the ring.
The others were equally wide-eyed with envy, itching to make a move.
Qin Feng’s behavior was like someone walking down the street with millions in cash, shouting, ‘Look how rich I am!’
“Sis, I haven’t even played an advanced dungeon yet. The ring was given to me by this gentleman.”
With that, Qin Feng yanked Ji Linmo’s arm over.
“I’m new, don’t really understand all this. Is this ring really valuable? It says it’s a high-level item.”
Seeing Qin Feng’s mischievous look, Ji Linmo’s impassive façade finally cracked.
Another mess because of him!
Why does this kid insist on forcing me to wear that ring?!
Ji Linmo took a deep breath and shook Qin Feng’s hand off.
“Hey, man, you really gave that ring to this kid?”
A man with dyed blond hair and a cigarette in his mouth gave Ji Linmo a once-over, shivered, and rubbed his arms.
“You’re something else, giving a ring to a kid, and putting it on his ring finger too. Stay away from me, man. You’re gross.”
Ji Linmo’s face remained expressionless as he turned to the smirking Qin Feng, the vein on his temple throbbing.
“Hey, kid, can I take a look at that ring?”
Another man, sporting a slicked-back hairstyle, approached Qin Feng eagerly.
“I just want to look, don’t worry, I won’t take it.”
Qin Feng didn’t respond, only lowered his head and idly rubbed the ring.
“Hey, did you hear me?”
The man with the slicked-back hair grew impatient and reached for Qin Feng’s finger.
Ji Linmo’s expression chilled as he yanked Qin Feng by the collar, pulling him behind like a large, unruly chick.
“You think I’m an idiot?”
Ji Linmo glared at the man, a cold light flickering in his eyes.
—Dungeon reward items are never bound to a specific user.
In other words, whoever grabs it owns it, and can use it instantly.
Ji Linmo had no doubt this man would snatch the ring and fight to the death for it.
“You… Sir, you don’t have to be so suspicious. I’m not some common thief,” the slick-haired man protested indignantly.
“You know, back in the real world, I was pretty well-known—”
“Don’t mind him, he’s full of it,” the blond interjected, rolling his eyes and cutting the man off.
“I asked around earlier—he’s just a lousy secondhand real estate broker.”
The slick-haired man looked quite embarrassed, mumbling something about the market being bad and how things used to be.
Dong—
A harsh gong sounded nearby.
Everyone fell silent and looked toward the source.
The staff entrance swung open and a fat man trudged in, carrying a gong made from a human skull.
He waddled over to the group.
When he reached them, the girl with the ponytail shrieked, but the boy in glasses quickly clamped a hand over her mouth.
—The man's round face lacked both nose and mouth, with only a massive eye taking up three-quarters of his features!
“So, you’re the job applicants? Welcome to the Big-Eye Monster Convenience Store. From today, you’ll be officially on the job.”
The one-eyed man panted heavily, and it was impossible to tell how he was speaking without a mouth.
“My name is Niu Haoshou, but everyone calls me Old Skinny. Just call me Manager.”
Qin Feng stifled a laugh.
Even the largest size of clothing looked painfully tight on the one-eyed man, his thick stomach swelling as though he were ten months pregnant.
The greasy nametag reading “Manager” was pinned to his chest, disappearing into his flesh with each wheeze.
“Truly living up to the name,” Qin Feng murmured teasingly to Ji Linmo.
“You two over there, no whispering!”
Niu Haoshou raised the skull gong and struck it hard.
The thunderous clang made everyone clutch their ears.
“Listen up! We’re desperate for help right now, so I don’t care what you did before. As long as you don’t cause trouble for the mall or get caught by the manager, I’ll turn a blind eye.”
Niu Haoshou cleared his throat and raised his voice.
“Understood?”
Everyone nodded obediently. After all, none of them had clean records in their past lives.
