After Mu Yin’s treatment, Wan Yuanheng slowly opened his eyes. When he was fully conscious, Mu Yin withdrew her energy—essentially reclaiming the power she’d injected into him. Though all cultivators wield energy, each person’s is distinct. If the other party is unconscious, her energy can guide his; but now that he was awake, he might instinctively resist, and both could be harmed.

“Now that you’re awake, eat something. You lost a lot of blood and need to replenish it.” Mu Yin rose and walked to the small pot simmering over the fire, ladled out a bowl of soup, and set it before him.

“Where are they?” Wan Yuanheng truly thought he was done for. He’d even planned to take someone down with him if he died. It was a surprise to open his eyes again.

“Three got away.” Mu Yin sat down and started drinking soup herself. She, too, was injured and needed to recover her blood.

“So what do we do now?” Wan Yuanheng frowned. They were simply too few in number, or else they would have kept those enemies from escaping.

“They won’t get far. Besides, we still have this.” Mu Yin gestured at her glasses. Those people clearly had no advanced technology, at least not enough to notice her mechanical mosquito.

Afterward, Mu Yin and Wan Yuanheng pursued them several times, but to no avail. Yu Xinling possessed a spatial dimension; in times of crisis, she would whisk her two companions into it. Moreover, her space differed from others—it could move within a radius of a hundred meters from its entry point. That mobility made pursuit difficult.

Fortunately, through repeated encounters, Mu Yin gradually learned to sense the frequency at which that space opened. Having once studied the laws of time and space and even forged a temporal key, Mu Yin’s perception of those laws was deeper than any other.

Time-space refers to both time and space, which can be combined or separated. Compared to the laws of time-space, the spatial laws are simpler, especially since this was a space enclosed by a special formation—just the most basic spatial confinement law.

More than ten days passed in this fashion before they finally cornered Yu Xinling and her two companions again. After days of flight, they were already in a sorry state.

“Can we talk?” Yu Xinling, unable to endure further, spoke to Mu Yin before the fighting began.

“Villains die from talking too much; I have no intention of being the villain,” Mu Yin replied, unwilling to humor her. Yet, she drew out a talisman—a soundproof barrier, carefully controlling its size.

“I know you’re hunting us because of the laboratory incident, but we were also fighting for this world. If you obtain that item, it could trigger a full-scale evolution of the zombies, and then all of humanity would suffer. That’s why we’re stopping you,” Yu Xinling said hurriedly, afraid Mu Yin would simply attack.

In three encounters over ten days, their losses were heavy—only three survived the first, and in the second, though they all escaped, Peng Hao lost an arm. Mu Yin and her companion were also gravely wounded; half of Mu Yin’s hair and her face were burned, making her look terrifying. Wan Yuanheng had a bullet pass through his chest, fortunately missing his heart and arteries.

During the third clash, Peng Xi’s leg was broken, and Yu Xinling was stabbed by Mu Yin. Mu Yin was also wounded, but Yu Xinling’s injuries were worse. Both sides bore scars.

Peng Xi and Peng Hao weren’t as fragile as some—their recovery was simply slow. Ultimately, Yu Xinling was the only combatant left, which forced her to negotiate. She only had the chance to speak because both her companions were recuperating and couldn’t stop her.

“You’re talking nonsense. Dr. Liao made a breakthrough with the zombie vaccine, but he needs the original plague virus for research. After the apocalypse, the original virus mutated into the zombie virus, so we have to find the original strain. Without it, we may never gain immunity to the zombie virus. Who told you the plague virus would make zombies evolve?” Wan Yuanheng couldn’t help but interject.

“That’s impossible! Our base tried the same experiment, and all the volunteers turned into zombies—zombies with powers, no less!” Yu Xinling refused to believe Wan Yuanheng’s words.

“Who led the research at your base?” Mu Yin raised an eyebrow, not attacking, but remaining just out of range and glancing at Peng Xi and Peng Hao. When she saw them frown, she couldn’t help but smile.

“Are you saying our research was misguided?” Yu Xinling glared at Mu Yin, feeling slighted on behalf of Congxia Base.

“No, I’m saying your base’s research was never intended for a cure. From the start, your focus was on zombie evolution.” Mu Yin gave her no face at all.

“What do you mean by that!” Yu Xinling was furious. While she wanted to reconcile, it didn’t mean she’d tolerate such arrogance.

“Don’t you get it? Those two are no good. They exist only to destroy the world. Your entire base is under their control—how could anything for humanity’s benefit come from there?” Mu Yin sneered. This reborn woman was indeed their chosen harbinger of the apocalypse; she was as naïve as they came.

She probably always thought she was saving the world, never realizing how many other bases had suffered because of her and her companions. Thinking of Congxia Base’s location—central in the country, connecting north and south, acting as a hub for the post-apocalyptic world—Mu Yin couldn’t help but worry.

“You’re spouting nonsense!” Yu Xinling was furious. She would never believe her beloved was bent on world destruction. She turned to Peng Xi and Peng Hao for confirmation, only to find they seemed unable to hear the conversation.

“What did you do to them?” Yu Xinling spun around, glaring at Mu Yin.

“Nothing much, just blocked out sound and clarity,” Mu Yin replied indifferently.

“Are you just afraid to let them hear you?” Yu Xinling latched onto this as if she’d found Mu Yin’s weakness.

“Tch. Stupidity really can’t be cured—not even reincarnation can fix your brain.” Mu Yin clicked her tongue, then suddenly attacked, closing the distance to Yu Xinling in an instant.

“You’re despicable!” Yu Xinling recoiled in fear. Peng Xi and Peng Hao rushed forward, but one was missing a hand, the other a leg, and though they had abilities, they were a burden.

Mu Yin reached into Yu Xinling’s chest, her hand seeming to vanish inside her body, yet leaving her physically unharmed. But when Yu Xinling saw what Mu Yin held, she went pale. “Give that back to me!”

“Heh, this wasn’t yours to begin with, was it? Didn’t you snatch it from Wen Yating?” Mu Yin rolled away in a series of agile flips, smiling radiantly as she retreated.
