Chapter 29: Where did you touch him? I'll chop it off!
"Is there anything else?" Dongfang Jibai was already losing his patience.
"Cousin, is that little fox yours?" Zhao Qiaofeng’s eyes were fixed on the small fox, hungry as a wolf eyeing its prey.
"And if it is?"
"Cousin, the little fox fell on the ground just now. Let me take her to wash up."
Women seemed to have no resistance to fluffy animal cubs. A spiritual fox that possessed such human-like intelligence was even more capable of capturing a young lady's heart in an instant.
As soon as Ji Ci heard this, her ears perked up. To be bathed by a beautiful young lady? She hadn't enjoyed such treatment before. She pushed off with her hind legs, ready to pounce into Zhao Qiaofeng’s arms, but was snatched up by Dongfang Jibai.
"I will take her to wash. Go and settle in, and come for a meal shortly. There are no outsiders in the manor; find a room for yourself. And remember, stay away from Wang Feng. He is no good man."
After giving his instructions, Dongfang Jibai walked away, cradling the little fox.
Zhao Qiaofeng watched Dongfang Jibai’s retreating figure. Wang Feng was no good? But... throughout the journey, she had been the one changing his bandages, and she had practically seen everything there was to see. Wang Feng had made her responsible for his care every single day. Every time she changed the dressing on his abdomen, Wang Feng would groan, claiming not that it hurt, but that it felt "uncomfortable." This left Zhao Qiaofeng at a loss, and Wang Feng would cajole her, saying that if she just rubbed it gently with her hand, the discomfort would fade. Zhao Qiaofeng didn't understand, but she followed his instructions. She hadn't felt that Wang Feng was a bad person at all.
Without dwelling on it further, Zhao Qiaofeng chose a courtyard closest to Dongfang Jibai’s to settle in.
When she arrived at the dining hall after freshening up, Zhao Qiaofeng’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of Wang Feng. The usually slovenly libertine was now dressed in a moon-white long robe, emitting a crisp scent of pine wood.
Zhao Qiaofeng frowned slightly. "Are you wearing perfume?"
Wang Feng nodded, excitedly running up to her and leaning in close. "Smell it. Isn't it nice?"
Just as Zhao Qiaofeng leaned in, Dongfang Jibai’s voice suddenly rang out from the doorway: "What are you two doing?"
Zhao Qiaofeng hurriedly stepped back, only to see the little fox in her cousin's arms winking at her, looking as if she were watching a show.
"Cousin... we weren't doing anything." She reached out to take the little fox.
In Dongfang Jibai’s arms, Ji Ci protested: *'Let her hold me, hurry, let her hold me!'*
Dongfang Jibai looked at the squirming fox in his arms, his expression darkening further. He tapped Ji Ci’s forehead with his slender fingers. "Behave."
But Zhao Qiaofeng was quick-handed and already had the little fox, planting a kiss right on her fluffy head. Ji Ci immediately felt dizzy and rolled around in her arms, her little paws unconsciously pressing against the young woman’s soft chest.
*'Ah, I'm dizzy from the kiss. It's so soft, it's so soft here.'* Ji Ci was bubbling with happiness, completely oblivious to Dongfang Jibai’s increasingly grim expression.
*Isn't he soft too? No, wait, he is definitely not soft! Everything on him is hard, like iron! The little ingrate, fickle as can be!*
"Eat," Dongfang Jibai said coldly, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the tabletop.
Zhao Qiaofeng ignored him, busy feeding the little fox. She picked out the fish bones and the meat bones, leaving Ji Ci completely dazed with joy. If she weren't on a mission for Dongfang Jibai, she would have been kidnapped by Zhao Qiaofeng by now.
*'I want to eat that chicken leg.'* Ji Ci stood up and pointed at the chicken leg in front of Dongfang Jibai.
Zhao Qiaofeng understood immediately, stood up, and moved the entire plate in front of the little fox.
*'Wow, you can actually understand me? It must be because I'm so good at expressing myself.'* Ji Ci nodded with satisfaction. Everyone could understand her, which meant she was brilliant! It had nothing to do with the male lead being smart! Ji Ci’s tail was practically wagging in the air.
Dongfang Jibai could barely suppress the twitch at the corner of his mouth. What a silly fox.
Watching Zhao Qiaofeng dote on the little fox, Wang Feng felt a pang of jealousy. Usually, Zhao Qiaofeng would feed him first.
"Ouch," Wang Feng suddenly cried out in pain, his chopsticks clattering to the floor.
Zhao Qiaofeng immediately stood up and reached out to touch Wang Feng’s abdomen. "Does it hurt again? Let me rub it for you."
*Snap!*
The sound of chopsticks breaking echoed through the room. Dongfang Jibai’s eyes were spitting fire.
"Wang Feng." He rose slowly, his voice as cold as ice. "Is this how you cajole my cousin?"
Before he could answer, Wang Feng was grabbed by the collar and sent flying into the courtyard with a swift kick.
"Cousin, he’s still injured! What are you doing?" Zhao Qiaofeng rushed to stop Dongfang Jibai.
"Are you stupid? Don't you know a girl shouldn't touch a man randomly? Where were you touching him? I should chop those hands off!" Dongfang Jibai’s teeth were grinding audibly.
"Cousin, he has a wound on his abdomen. It needs to be rubbed while he eats so it won't hurt. I wasn't just touching him randomly." Zhao Qiaofeng explained frantically, though each word only brought Wang Feng closer to his doom.
Ji Ci, with a chicken leg in her mouth, watched the farce with relish. *'Did the plot change? Does Zhao Qiaofeng have a crush on Wang Feng?'*
*'That's not right. They’ve never met before.'* Chew, chew, chew. *'Why is this meat so tough?'*
Ji Ci spat out a bone and jumped off the table. A sudden idea struck her, and she began an impromptu performance in front of Dongfang Jibai.
*'Little Sister Feng, Brother is in so much pain here. Help Brother blow on it; blowing will make the pain go away.'*
*'How about Brother takes off his clothes and you rub it for me?'*
Ji Ci held her stomach and rolled around, then tugged at her own tail, acting every bit the lecherous scoundrel.
Dongfang Jibai’s gaze turned dangerous instantly. The little fox’s performance was nine times out of ten, reality! After all, the little fox could foresee the future. He didn't know that this time, it was entirely the little fox’s own directorial debut. Wang Feng had never actually said those things.
"Wang Feng!" Dongfang Jibai drew his soft sword and flew toward Wang Feng.
"Dongfang Jibai, get a grip! I have no improper thoughts about your cousin. I know she is your fiancée—a friend’s wife is not to be touched! How could I do such a thing?" Wang Feng pleaded, terrified of being sliced up.
"Cousin, kill him!" Zhao Qiaofeng’s expression suddenly shifted, her eyes filled with resentment.
Yes, resentment! Heavier than that of a ghost dead for ten years.
Wang Feng froze. What was going on? What was happening? Which word had been wrong? Give him a hint!
Ji Ci was curious too. What was going on now? Why did Zhao Qiaofeng want to kill Wang Feng too? She scurried over to the three of them, eager for a front-row seat to the drama.
"Miss Qiaofeng, what did I say wrong?" Wang Feng asked cautiously.
"If you knew I was Cousin’s fiancée, why would you make me do those things?" Zhao Qiaofeng bit her lower lip, her eyes shimmering with tears.
Wang Feng’s eyes widened, completely bewildered. *Huh? What things? Don't spout nonsense, people could die!*
"Jibai, listen to me, your cousin and I are perfectly innocent!" Wang Feng hugged Dongfang Jibai’s leg, nearly in tears.
Dongfang Jibai rubbed his temples. "She is not my fiancée, only my cousin. We grew up together like siblings. Now, do you know where you went wrong?"
He tapped Wang Feng’s cheek lightly with his sword, dripping with sarcasm.
