Chapter 63 Meditation Technique
Both bedrooms were suitable for living. Naturally, Lin Qingqing, Lei Min, and Wen Ling shared one, while the other was left for Aunt Zhang and Yue Xuanxuan.
Once inside the room, Lin Qingqing closed the door and called Lei Min and Wen Ling over.
"I have a meditation cultivation technique I want to teach you," Lin Qingqing stated her intentions directly. From the moment she decided to form a team, she never intended to keep this technique a secret.
"Meditation? What is that for? Like practicing yoga?"
Lei Min was somewhat surprised, failing to understand why their captain was making such a solemn occasion out of teaching them meditation.
Lin Qingqing did not answer her directly, but instead posed another question: "Do you remember what I said about enhancing our abilities?"
"I remember, it's about using ability serums!" Lei Min nodded, finding her question rather odd. Was she planning to buy serums for them once they reached the base?
"Wait! That's not right, Captain. None of us have been to the base yet. How did you manage to advance to Level 2?"
"Of course I have other methods!"
Seeing the sudden excitement in both of their expressions, Lin Qingqing continued, "This is precisely the meditation technique I just mentioned. It was taught to me by a Taoist priest a few years ago. After the apocalypse, I discovered that practicing this meditation technique can enhance spiritual power."
"Spiritual power?"
It was the first time Lei Min and Wen Ling had ever heard the term.
"Yes, increasing spiritual power can increase your abilities!"
"What?"
"Really?"
"Can cultivation techniques actually be useful? Aren't those just things old men and women practice?" In Lei Min's view, martial arts techniques were no different from Tai Chi or yoga; they were just exercises to keep the body healthy.
"I used to think the same way, but the facts speak for themselves. After practicing it, I genuinely felt my spiritual power increase. How else could I have reached Level 2? I believe this technique is extraordinary," Lin Qingqing said.
"Is this the legendary golden finger? Captain, are you really going to teach it to us?" Lei Min's eyes lit up, and she was so excited she almost jumped. Ability serums were simply too scarce, and she had been worrying about how to level up!
"Of course, we are teammates now!" Lin Qingqing smiled with a laugh.
随后, Lin Qingqing shared her understanding and hypotheses regarding abilities, including the genetic chain that appeared in her mind, telling them everything. What she said made Lei Min and Wen Ling's jaws drop to the floor.
"Having lived for so many years, this is the first time anyone has explained the world to me in such a mystical way," Lei Min muttered to herself. After listening to Lin Qingqing, she felt as though her worldview and beliefs were collapsing.
"It feels like this world is no longer the scientific world we once knew," Wen Ling sighed.
Seeing that the two of them were deeply shaken, Lin Qingqing amusedly comforted them, saying, "There is a saying that the end of science is theology. Perhaps what we are encountering now is simply the end of the scientific world."
"Indeed, there are far too many phenomena in this world that science cannot explain. Perhaps it's just because humanity's knowledge is still too shallow to touch the truth behind those matters, which is why theology came to be."
After the initial shock, Lei Min completely let go of her doubts. What Lin Qingqing said might have seemed absurd, but only such absurd explanations could make sense of the current world. Besides, Lin Qingqing herself was the most powerful proof.
As for whether it was true or not—well, zombies and supernatural abilities had already appeared, so what else was impossible?
The chant was concise, consisting of only a dozen or so lines in total. Lin Qingqing recited the entire passage first, then explained it word by word. Lei Min and Wen Ling had excellent memories, and by the time she finished explaining it once, both of them had already memorized it.
After adjusting their mental states, Lei Min and Wen Ling followed Lin Qingqing's instructions, sitting cross-legged on the bed with their hands resting together in front of them. They closed their eyes, relaxed, and silently recited the chant in their hearts.
After about half an hour, Lei Min suddenly collapsed onto the bed in defeat, speaking to Lin Qingqing with an immensely aggrieved tone: "What should I do? I completely fail to quiet my mind! It feels like there are countless tiny people bouncing around in my head."
Lin Qingqing was speechless: "You're too excited. Meditation requires inner peace, and your state must be naturally relaxed."
"Fine, I'll try again. Don't mind me, I refuse to believe I can't do this." With that, she scrambled up and continued practicing her seated meditation.
Wen Ling was still young. Although clever, her comprehension of obscure classical texts was somewhat limited, yet her focus and determination were actually superior to Lei Min's.
After Lin Qingqing explained it to her twice, Wen Ling began trying to enter a meditative state.
Perhaps because her ability belonged to a special category, or simply because she was blind, Wen Ling succeeded on her very first attempt at deep meditation.
Lin Qingqing sat opposite her, carefully observing their conditions: their expressions were peaceful, and everything seemed fine.
"I wonder how much help the meditation technique will provide them..."
The experience bar for the chain in Lin Qingqing's mind inched upward once more, now nearing the mid-stage of the First Tier. After this series of battles—though it was hard to tell with Wen Ling—Lei Min should be rapidly approaching the peak of the First Tier.
"Perhaps once we reach the base, we can take on more missions to hunt down Second-Tier zombies!"
The night passed quietly.
Early the next morning, Lin Qingqing was awakened by Lei Min's exclamation of surprise.
"Oh my god, I can actually feel my spiritual power growing just a tiny bit! Captain, that technique really seems to work!"
Lei Min had remained in that self-forgetful state until the second half of the night, only waking up when the sun rose in the morning. Experiencing the change in her spiritual power firsthand had left her utterly shocked.
"Shh! Keep it down, Little Bell is still sleeping!" Lin Qingqing indicated that Wen Ling was still fast asleep.
"Oh! Oh! Shall we go outside to talk then?"
"Mhm, it's getting late. Let's go out and pack our things first."
As soon as they stepped outside, a rich aroma drifted over. Aunt Zhang was already preparing breakfast in the courtyard. She had boiled a pot of mixed-grain rice porridge, added some dried meat to it, poured in a bit of fragrant sesame oil found in the courtyard kitchen, and served it with small side dishes of pickles. Just smelling it was mouthwatering.
"Ah, Lin, you're up? I was just about to have Xuanxuan call you!"
"Good morning, Sister Lin!" Yue Xuanxuan was helping dish out the food. He had stood watch during the latter half of the night, but he still looked quite energetic now.
"Aunt Zhang, your cooking skills are truly top-notch!" Lei Min took her bowl, took a sip of the porridge, and immediately offered endless praise.
"Oh, what's so special about this? It's just home-cooked food."
"Being able to make the most ordinary food taste this delicious is already amazing!" Both Lei Min and Lin Qingqing had been eating instant food along the way, and they hadn't tasted such homely flavors in a long time.
"Captain!" At that moment, Wen Ling also got up, looking much more spirited than before.
"Come here, little girl, your porridge is all dished out!"
"Thank you, Aunt Zhang," Wen Ling said, slowly picking up her bowl and sipping the porridge in small mouthfuls.
*So this child really is blind? Ah, what a pity!* Seeing the little girl's well-behaved appearance, Aunt Zhang had initially thought of having her keep Yue Xuanxuan company. However, it was a pity that a blind girl couldn't do anything; dragging her along would only be a burden.
Lei Min picked up some vegetables and placed them in Wen Ling's bowl. Seeing the expressions of pity mixed with subtle disdain on Aunt Zhang and Yue Xuanxuan's faces, she immediately frowned.
"Little Bell is my teammate and also our little sister. Aunt Zhang doesn't need to worry about her!" Lin Qingqing put down her bowl and specifically introduced Wen Ling.
"Ah, such a small child..." Aunt Zhang caught the underlying meaning in Lin Qingqing's words and looked somewhat awkward.
"Can she even kill zombies?" Yue Xuanxuan suddenly spoke up, looking back and forth at Wen Ling with a rather stern tone. His previous pity had gradually transformed into scrutiny under Lin Qingqing's protective stance.
"Xuanxuan!"
Aunt Zhang quickly pulled him back and offered an apologetic smile, saying, "Children don't know any better, Miss Lin, please don't mind him."
"It's fine. Everyone, finish eating and get ready to hit the road," Lin Qingqing naturally wouldn't bicker over the petty competitive mindset of a child.
Yue Xuanxuan stood behind Aunt Zhang, looking at Wen Ling with unconcealed defiance. He couldn't understand why such a frail and useless little girl deserved to be so fiercely protected by Sister Lin.
Everyone was busy packing their belongings, and no one bothered to explain the reason to him. Instead, as Wen Ling passed by him, she whispered softly, "Even though I can't kill zombies, in the eyes of the captain and Minmin, I am irreplaceable!"
"Hmph, what's so great about that? They're just pitying you anyway!" Yue Xuanxuan clenched his fists with a rebellious expression.
"Believe whatever you want, I won't argue with you!"
Wen Ling turned her head away. She was also quite angry; although she hated being questioned, the captain had warned them yesterday that while their abilities were formidable, their actual strength was still insufficient. Therefore, they had to maintain a low profile in front of outsiders, especially regarding their ability attributes—whenever secrecy was possible, they must keep it hidden.
Both she and Lei Min deeply agreed with this approach.
