Volume One, Chapter Four: The Bet of Three Slaps
Someone quickly stepped out from the crowd. “Young man, I don’t know if you’re willing to part with this jade piece, but I’m prepared to offer fifty thousand for it!”
“Great! I want the transfer done right now!” Zhang Wenxuan’s heart surged with excitement.
Fifty thousand!
He used to work three jobs every day, and his monthly salary was barely around six thousand.
Now, in less than half an hour, he had earned fifty thousand outright.
An outrageous profit—simply staggering!
“No problem,” the middle-aged man nodded with a smile and quickly transferred the fifty thousand into Zhang Wenxuan’s bank account.
The joy on Zhang Wenxuan’s face was unmistakable. Without hesitation, he turned and left, ready to head to the next shop to continue gambling on jade stones, so as not to attract too much attention.
He soon arrived at the second raw stone shop, which was more than three times the size of the previous one.
Just a glance around the raw stone section revealed several stones containing jade inside.
“Why are you following me?” Zhang Wenxuan cast a dark gaze at Wang Dong behind him.
Wang Dong’s expression soured. “Who’s following you? This shop is the biggest on the street; I was going to come here anyway.”
“Looking at you, are you planning to keep gambling on jade?”
“You just got lucky once, thinking you’re some kind of gambling god?”
Amused by Wang Dong’s sneer, Zhang Wenxuan’s mind raced, and a plan formed instantly.
“Luck is on my side today, of course I’m continuing. You seem to doubt my good fortune.”
“Let’s make a bet!” Zhang Wenxuan’s lips curled into a teasing smile.
Upon hearing the word ‘bet,’ Wang Dong’s interest was piqued. “Bet on what?”
“I’ll randomly pick three raw stones, and we’ll bet on whether I lose or profit.”
“If I win, I’ll slap you thrice; if I lose, you slap me thrice,” Zhang Wenxuan said, grinning.
Wang Dong’s eyes lit up. “Hahaha! Zhang Wenxuan, you’re way too confident. I’m in; I want to see how you manage to hit the jackpot.”
The onlookers’ expressions grew strange upon hearing their wager.
“Young man, gambling on jade isn’t that simple. You’re too confident. Even jade masters can’t guarantee profit!” someone remarked.
“Yes, truly a fearless novice,” many shook their heads.
Zhang Wenxuan laughed inwardly, ignoring the murmurs.
In front of Wang Dong, he casually circled the pile of raw stones and picked out three.
“These three will do.”
“Clerk, I’ll take them,” Zhang Wenxuan swiped his card, spending a total of fifty thousand, immediately using up all the money he had just earned.
“You’ve got guts—fifty thousand without batting an eye,” Wang Dong exclaimed in surprise.
That’s fifty thousand, a substantial sum, even for him.
Zhang Wenxuan chuckled lightly. Fifty thousand was nothing; he was confident he could earn ten times that soon.
Carrying the three stones, he headed straight to the cutting machine.
“Master, please help me cut these open,” Zhang Wenxuan said, marking lines on the raw stones with chalk.
“Alright,” the cutter nodded and activated the machine.
Ssssss!
The familiar sound echoed as the raw stones were slowly sliced open.
Many around watched curiously, but Zhang Wenxuan remained relaxed, showing no sign of nervousness.
“Green! It’s green!”
A flash of green light flickered inside the stone. Soon, the stone split open, revealing jade to all.
“Icy jade. Given its size and color, it’s worth about thirty thousand!” an experienced jade collector quickly assessed.
“Really jade! This young man’s luck is unbelievable!”
Someone stepped forward from the crowd. “Young man, would you sell this piece? I’ll offer thirty thousand.”
“No rush, not selling yet,” Zhang Wenxuan shook his head. He intended to cut all three before selling.
“Wang Fatty, this piece is already worth thirty thousand, just twenty thousand short!”
“Think I can get another twenty thousand’s worth from the other two?” Zhang Wenxuan teased Wang Dong.
Wang Dong’s face darkened. “Zhang Wenxuan, it’s not even cut open yet, what are you so proud about?”
“Do you really think you can keep hitting jade? Don’t be ridiculous.”
Many around nodded in agreement.
Getting one jade stone was lucky enough; how could it keep happening?
Zhang Wenxuan smiled. “We’ll just wait and see.”
“Master, please cut the other two stones now,” he said.
The cutter nodded and took the second stone from Zhang Wenxuan.
Ssssss!
The cutting sound resumed, drawing everyone’s gaze.
As the grinding wheel slowly sliced the second stone, many people’s eyes widened in shock.
“Green again! Another jade! How is this possible?”
The crowd buzzed in astonishment. Wang Dong’s face was pale.
“This jade is even better than the first, worth at least fifty thousand!” someone estimated.
“Eighty thousand total! That young man already won the bet!” someone else chimed in.
Zhang Wenxuan laughed. “Wang Fatty, looks like I’ve won this bet!”
“These two pieces add up to eighty thousand, exceeding my cost price. What else do you have to say?”
Wang Dong’s face flushed with anger and frustration. “Zhang Wenxuan, don’t get too cocky. This is just your luck. And do you really think those two are worth eighty thousand?”
“I think there’s something wrong with your jade. It’s not worth that much!”
Seeing Wang Dong backpedal, Zhang Wenxuan sneered.
“If you’re still not convinced, I’ll make you kneel completely.”
“Master, cut the third stone now!” Zhang Wenxuan declared.
He wanted to utterly humiliate Wang Dong in front of everyone.
Ssssss!
The familiar cutting sound continued, and the shop fell silent.
The first two stones had increased greatly in value—would the third rise as well?
The crowd’s curiosity was intense.
Wang Dong clenched his fists, eyes locked on the cutter, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.
Snap!
The third stone was cut open, revealing the jade inside to all.
This third jade was crystal clear, with an icy blue hue as brilliant as sapphire, even reflecting light under the lamps.
“Top-grade icy jade! This is top-grade icy jade!” a stunned shout echoed through the shop.
“This top-grade icy jade is worth at least a million.”
Boom!
The atmosphere exploded.
“Impossible!”
“How could you get jade of this caliber? The odds are impossible!”
“Zhang Wenxuan, you must be cheating!” Wang Dong couldn’t accept it, his round, ugly face full of rage and jealousy.
This was a jade worth a million—already a tenth of his entire fortune! How could he not be envious?
Especially since the one who found the jade was Zhang Wenxuan, whom he despised.
Zhang Wenxuan stayed calm, smirking teasingly. “Wang Fatty, watch your words.”
“This raw stone was chosen in front of you. How could I cheat? Or do you think this shop is in cahoots with me?”
