Chapter 37: Mega Sceptile, Mega Evolve!

For Grovyle, his earliest companions had all reached their final evolutionary forms.

Milotic, having received a Prism Scale shortly after joining Zhang Feng, evolved and gained immense strength and breathtaking beauty. Consequently, she had overtaken Pidgeotto and Grovyle himself, becoming Zhang Feng’s strongest trump card, second only to Rayquaza. Pidgey, meanwhile, had long since evolved into Pidgeot, becoming a key powerhouse under Zhang Feng’s command.

Only he—the Pokémon who was nominally Zhang Feng’s starter—remained unevolved at level thirty-eight. Just moments ago, watching his attack be easily shattered by Houndoom, the frustration in his heart had fully transformed into a desperate craving for power. Grovyle was happy for his friends' strength, but he refused to be left behind.

And so, the light of evolution began to shine across the battlefield.

"This kid’s got some nerve. Not only does he dare provoke Team Rocket, but his Pokémon starts evolving in the middle of a fight?"

"Cassidy, don't just stand there! Stop the evolution! Houndoom, use Flamethrower!"

Prompted by Butch’s command, Cassidy finally snapped to her senses. Right, they were Team Rocket—an evil organization. They wouldn't be foolish enough to wait for an opponent’s Pokémon to evolve and turn the tables!

The next moment, Cassidy ordered her Mightyena to attack as well. "Mightyena, stop Grovyle’s evolution! Use Fire Fang!"

With their trainers' orders, Houndoom and Mightyena prepared to strike. Both Pokémon unleashed Fire-type moves, intending to strike Grovyle down for good. If an evolution is interrupted, attempting it again becomes significantly harder.

At that exact moment, two Luxury Balls appeared in Zhang Feng’s hands. "Milotic, use Surf! Pidgeot, use Quick Attack and stop them!"

Two beams of red light flashed, and as soon as they appeared, Milotic and Pidgeot stood guard by Grovyle’s side. Milotic immediately unleashed a massive wave, dousing Houndoom’s Flamethrower and sweeping the charging Mightyena back with the force of the water. Daring to harm their companion and interrupt Grovyle’s evolution was unforgivable.

Seizing the opportunity, Pidgeot flapped his wings and dashed forward at high speed, slamming his body into Mightyena and sending him flying once more. Both Houndoom and Mightyena were severely injured by the strikes. Seeing this, Butch and Cassidy were incensed and threw out two more Poké Balls. Granbull and Hitmontop appeared instantly—the Granbull at level forty and the Hitmontop at level forty-two.

With a three-on-four situation, Zhang Feng found himself on the back foot.

However, at that very moment, Grovyle’s silhouette grew taller. As the white light of evolution faded, a formidable Sceptile appeared before everyone.

"Ding! Sceptile’s current stats are as follows:"
Pokémon: Sceptile
Divine Rank: None
Level: 40
Ability: Overgrow
Type: Grass
Potential: Gold
Bond Evolution: Locked
Mega Evolution: Mega Sceptile
Moves: Bullet Seed, Solar Beam, Synthesis, Energy Ball, Leech Seed, X-Scissor, Leaf Storm...
Affinity: 240
Background: Met his beloved trainer in Littleroot Town; finally reached his fully evolved form and hopes to become the strongest in the world alongside his trainer.
Hobbies: Likes spicy food and traveling with his trainer.

Watching the two-meter-tall Sceptile with Gold-grade potential, Zhang Feng’s mouth curled into a faint smile. "You finally evolved, Sceptile!"

Hearing this, Sceptile turned his head, looking at Zhang Feng with intensity. Then, with a twig clamped between his teeth, he fixed his gaze on Butch and Cassidy. These two scoundrels were the ones whose Pokémon had disrupted his moves and tried to stop his evolution, were they?

As Zhang Feng battled Butch and Cassidy, many low-level Team Rocket grunts began attacking the other trainers present. However, some powerful trainers, like Morrison, fought their way to Zhang Feng’s side with his Blaziken. Seeing Zhang Feng surrounded, he called out, "Need a hand? They’ve got quite a few Pokémon!"

Hearing this, Zhang Feng—confident in his own Pokémon’s strength—politely declined and turned to Sceptile. "Good. Sceptile, let them witness our newest power. Sceptile, you can Mega Evolve now!"

Mega Evolution, also known as Super Evolution, was a state that only a handful of powerful Pokémon possessed in current reports. But with Zhang Feng’s system, as long as one possessed a Mega Stone and a Key Stone, any Pokémon could undergo Mega Evolution.

Therefore, the fully evolved Sceptile naturally possessed the potential for Mega Evolution.

The next moment, Zhang Feng pulled a glowing green Mega Stone containing Sceptile’s power from his system storage and tossed it to him, while he held a shimmering Key Stone on his own wrist. "Sceptile, now! Mega Evolve!"

Hearing this, Butch, Cassidy, and even many of the other trainers present were left speechless. Wait, what? Sceptile has an evolution? Are you kidding me?

"Hahahaha! I thought he was a skilled trainer, but he’s just an ignorant brat. How could a Sceptile evolve further..."

But before Cassidy could finish her sentence, a seven-colored light erupted from Sceptile’s body, and the Mega Evolution began to shine.

"This... this is impossible!"
"Holy crap, a Sceptile can evolve again? This is a discovery of the century!"
"Is this for real? Is he joking?"

Even Morrison, watching Zhang Feng’s Sceptile actually begin to evolve, fixed his eyes on the peculiar stone. "If a Sceptile can evolve, then perhaps you, my Blaziken—being one of the Hoenn starters—might also be capable of Mega Evolution?"

When the Mega Evolution concluded, a Mega Sceptile, looking even cooler than before and exuding a touch of Dragon-type aura, was revealed to everyone.
