Chapter One Hundred and Ten: Are You Worthy of Trust?
Shen Ruizhang only felt a sharp pain on his cheek. He raised a hand to cover the throbbing spot.
Jiang Yunzhou’s pupils contracted violently as she stared at him, rigid with shock.
Blood began to bead out, drop by drop, between Shen Ruizhang’s fingers.
Panic surged through Jiang Yunzhou at once. Her pale lips pressed tightly together, and the agitation in her chest slowly began to settle.
“Sorry.”
The vivid red of the blood stung Jiang Yunzhou’s eyes. She turned her gaze away and looked down at the floor, only to see dark stains where the drops had fallen.
Shen Ruizhang’s eyes landed on the shattered bangle on the ground.
He bent to pick up the broken pieces, wrapping them in a handkerchief as he asked calmly, “Why won’t you believe me?”
Jiang Yunzhou’s fingers clenched hard. “Uncle, when you ask me that, have you ever thought about what you’ve done?”
Had she ever failed to trust him with all her heart?
He had been the person she had liked since childhood. How could she possibly not believe him?
Only, the trust she had offered him had become a joke, cutting into her again and again, hurting her over and over.
How dare she trust him again?
Once, twice, three times over—after all that, even a fool would stop believing so easily.
Shen Ruizhang was stunned by her words. Frowning deeply, he silently wrapped the bracelet he had picked up in the cloth.
“Back then, I was deceived by Zhou Qingfei. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Jiang Yunzhou gave a mocking laugh. “Does saying you didn’t mean it erase the damage you did to me? You ask why I don’t believe you, so tell me—why didn’t you believe me either?”
She had explained herself countless times, yet he still believed only Zhou Qingfei. Not a single word she said ever reached him.
As long as Zhou Qingfei said it was her, Shen Ruizhang would believe it without question.
Shen Ruizhang’s expression froze. His hands, hanging at his sides, clenched tighter and tighter.
He could not understand why, at that time, he had trusted Zhou Qingfei’s words so completely. Clearly, she was the girl he had watched grow up. Clearly, their relationship had not always been this bad.
“Sorry, Yunzhou.”
Jiang Yunzhou opened her mouth, then let out a derisive laugh.
She had waited so long to hear those words. Yet now that the apology had finally come, when she no longer wanted it, she found she was not as happy as she had imagined.
An apology that came too late was useless.
“Even if you were angry with me, you shouldn’t have smashed the bangle Mom gave you. If she knew, she would be heartbroken.”
Jiang Yunzhou pressed her lips together, her face still as grim as ever.
Shen Ruizhang sighed. “This time, you should trust me. I won’t lie to you.”
“You’re not worth my trust, Shen Ruizhang. You wore out my trust a long time ago. I’m not going to let you toy with me again like some fool.”
A shadow of hurt crossed Shen Ruizhang’s heart, but it was he who had thrown away her trust with his own hands.
“I won’t toy with you. This time, just believe me once, all right?”
His voice was low, his eyes full of pleading.
Jiang Yunzhou fell silent. She did not refuse, but she did not agree either, only stared at him coldly.
Then she sneered, “And how am I supposed to believe you? You said you would help me, and yet your people were already involved with the other side. Don’t tell me they only went over to warn him?”
Shen Ruizhang was speechless. At last he said helplessly, “No matter what you think, my original intention was only to help you. I never meant to hurt you!”
Jiang Yunzhou said icily, “If you wanted to help me, then why is Sang Bai still being bullied on set? She’s getting worse and worse. So where exactly is this help of yours?”
Seeing that Jiang Yunzhou seemed about to lose control again, Shen Ruizhang hurriedly reached out to hold her.
“Don’t touch me!”
Jiang Yunzhou shook off his hand. Shen Ruizhang stiffened for a moment, then let go.
“Yunzhou, calm down. I really do want to help you. Believe me—this time, I won’t disappoint you!”
Jiang Yunzhou gritted her teeth and glared at him coldly.
“Fine. I’ll see exactly what kind of help you’re talking about. If you’re only saying it with your mouth, then there’s no need to act so self-important!”
With that, Jiang Yunzhou turned to leave, only for Shen Ruizhang to seize her hand the next second.
“Since you’re already here, stay and rest. It’s very late now, and it isn’t safe to go back alone.”
Without the slightest hesitation, Jiang Yunzhou shook him off.
“No need. I don’t want to see your face right now.”
At that, Shen Ruizhang pressed his lips together and lowered his eyes. “You’re still blaming me.”
Jiang Yunzhou fell silent, then said faintly, “If you were me, perhaps you wouldn’t be able to stay as calm as I am.”
After saying that, she walked out.
Shen Ruizhang stood there, staring blankly at her retreating figure, then called Uncle Zhang.
“Uncle Zhang, take Yunzhou home.”
Jiang Yunzhou had only just stepped out of the villa when a car stopped in front of her.
“Miss Jiang, get in. Mr. Shen asked me to take you back.”
Jiang Yunzhou gave a soft acknowledgment. She did not make things difficult for herself; it really was very late, and getting a taxi would not be easy.
“Whose parcel is this?”
The moment Jiang Yunzhou arrived at the company and heard the word parcel, she went on edge.
She strode forward, stopping in front of the courier, and asked coldly, “Who sent you?”
The courier seemed frightened by her expression and stammered, “T-The courier station…”
Jiang Yunzhou took the parcel from his hands and glanced at the recipient’s name. It was not hers, but that of a new girl in the company.
“Sister Jiang, th-this is my parcel.”
A timid female voice sounded behind her.
Jiang Yunzhou reacted at once and handed the parcel over, asking worriedly, “Do you want me to open it for you?”
She was afraid it might be some kind of threatening letter again.
The new girl opened the parcel right in front of Jiang Yunzhou.
Both of them breathed a sigh of relief at the same time.
“Sister Jiang, it’s just an ordinary parcel!”
“Good.”
Jiang Yunzhou sat back down in her office, and Shen Ruizhang sent her a message.
At the same time, she also received a message from her assistant.
She first looked at the assistant’s message, and her face changed instantly. She immediately bought the earliest flight ticket and rushed to the airport at once.
By the time she reached the set, the assistant came running up to her in tears.
“Jiang-jie! Sister Sang Bai, Sister Sang Bai is almost done for!”
Jiang Yunzhou was alarmed by the words.
“What do you mean, done for? What did they do to her again?”
The assistant stammered, “Sister Sang Bai couldn’t stand the director’s harassment and fought back, so the director joined forces with the others to isolate her. They also had people bully her in the scenes, and the thing is, the script itself is written that way…”
Only, what was supposed to happen in the script had been made real, and far too much force had been used.
