Chapter 116: The Drunkard
When she saw the two of them acting so intimately, the hand resting on her knee tightened abruptly.
Countless thoughts raced through her mind. She never expected to meet Shen Tingxiao in this way, and with his fiancée.
Jiang Yunzhou let out a cold laugh in her heart and made no effort to greet him. She guessed he probably did not want to be disturbed while he was with his fiancée. Thinking this, she silently closed her eyes and refused to look at Shen Tingxiao again.
Shen Tingxiao had prepared himself to be questioned by Jiang Yunzhou, but he had not expected her to simply bypass him without a word. He felt anxious, knowing she must have misunderstood him, and he longed to rush over and explain. Yet he understood that the moment had not yet come. He could only suppress his emotions and glance toward her from time to time, only to find no movement from her at all.
Jiang Yunzhou slept for some time. When she woke, she looked out the window. Endless white clouds stretched in every direction. She leaned against the window for a long time, gazing at them until the flight attendant pushed the meal cart. After eating, she wanted to go to the bathroom to wash her hands. Who knew, just as she reached the toilet door, she ran straight into Shen Tingxiao.
Jiang Yunzhou paused, then walked around him expressionlessly. Unexpectedly, Shen Tingxiao blocked her path. “Let’s talk inside.”
“I have nothing to say to you. Move aside.”
Shen Tingxiao pursed his lips and pushed the toilet door open. Before Jiang Yunzhou could react, he shoved her inside and closed the door behind him with a snap.
Jiang Yunzhou’s heart skipped a beat. She slapped him backhand. “Get lost! I don’t want to see you again. You don’t know me? Why act this way now? Let’s part on good terms. You marry your fiancée, and I’ll live well with Shen Ruizhang…”
Before she could finish, she was suddenly pulled into his embrace. In the narrow space, her back hit the sink. Shen Tingxiao cupped her face, forcing her chin upward, and kissed her.
She could only wrap her arms around him, or else her body would have collapsed.
Realizing the danger, Jiang Yunzhou immediately began to struggle. “Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!”
She had no idea where Shen Tingxiao found the strength. She struggled desperately, but it was like a kitten scratching an itch.
After a long time, Shen Tingxiao finally released her. Jiang Yunzhou raised her hand to slap him again, but it was blocked in midair.
“You!”
Shen Tingxiao stared deeply into her eyes and only said, “Wait for me.”
Jiang Yunzhou pursed her lips, her face ugly, yet she said nothing. Shen Tingxiao released his hold on her hand and turned to leave.
Jiang Yunzhou let her hand fall, then fiercely wiped her lips with it, her expression sinking. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her fair face was flushed red. She quickly washed it with cold water. Only after the heat returned to normal did she return to her seat.
Thinking of what had just happened, she angrily clenched her fists. Wait for him? For what? Until when? Did they truly have to wait until they got married?
Jiang Yunzhou lowered her eyes. Her emotions were complex, and her heart raced. She pressed a hand to her chest and, after who knows how long, fell into a daze and slept again.
When she woke, they had arrived at their destination.
Jiang Yunzhou waited until everyone else had left before standing and heading toward the exit. Just after getting off the plane, she felt a gaze settle on her.
She looked back but saw nothing. She wondered if she was overthinking it and continued forward. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone following from behind. Indeed, a man was tracking her, keeping a steady distance, neither too close nor too far.
The first person Jiang Yunzhou thought of was Shen Tingxiao, but remembering he had his fiancée with him, it was unlikely he could spare the time. Excluding him, no one else came to mind. As for Shen Ruizhang, she had never considered him and had not told him she was returning to the country.
Sensing the pursuit, Jiang Yunzhou grew tense and quickened her pace. She hailed a taxi at random. Only after leaving the airport did the feeling of being followed ease.
Just as she was about to find a place to eat, a man sitting on the ground drinking suddenly thrust out his leg. Jiang Yunzhou accidentally kicked it, and her body tilted toward the ground. She staggered several steps before steadying herself.
Seeing it was a drunkard, she did not bother with him. Who knew, just as she took one step, the bag in her hand was snatched. A wave of alcohol stench slammed into her.
Jiang Yunzhou felt her entire body go numb. She heard the drunkard shout, “You stepped on me. No apology and you still want to walk away?”
Sorry. Snatching the bag and walking away—there was no reasoning with a drunkard. No matter what she said, it would not stop his muddled mind. Moreover, the man was taller than her. Jiang Yunzhou simply wanted to escape as fast as possible. Yet he refused to let go, muttering nonsense. Suddenly his bottle flew toward her and smashed into her back.
Jiang Yunzhou cried out and ran, screaming for help. The drunkard chased her, spewing ugly curses.
It was on the street, so many passersby saw the scene. Several already took out their phones to call the police.
Jiang Yunzhou frantically fumbled for her phone, cursing her terrible luck. It had been hard to return to the country once, and now this happened!
The more frantic she became, the faster she ran. Her high-heeled shoe twisted on the uneven ground and the heel snapped off. Jiang Yunzhou nearly fell flat on her face.
Just as she stumbled, the drunkard caught up. His strong hand grabbed her and slammed her down.
Jiang Yunzhou let out a sharp cry, her eyes wide with terror, her voice trembling. “What are you doing! I’m calling the police!”
The drunkard slowly smiled, the stench of alcohol hitting her face and making her nauseous. “Which whore did you sleep with, Old Zhao’s grandson? You know? We’re from the same clan. Why are you talking like that…”
All sorts of nonsense.
It turned out the man was not only a drunk but also mad. While speaking, he tried to grab the bag from Jiang Yunzhou’s hand. Scared, she dropped it and scrambled to her feet to run. Who knew, once the bag was dropped, the drunkard lost interest and instead grabbed her wrist, then tried to touch her face.
Jiang Yunzhou struggled desperately but could not shake him off. Panicked, she curled into herself, closed her eyes tightly. Suddenly the force holding her hand was released.
“Yunzhou! Are you all right!”
Jiang Yunzhou panted heavily, looking at the familiar figure suddenly appearing before her eyes. Tears streamed down her face. But before she could speak, her pupils shrank sharply and a gasp escaped her chest.
“Be careful!!!”
