Chapter 100: Get Out of Ye Group
Lu Yao drove Zhou Luoxi’s luxury car to the underground parking lot of the Ye Group. It took all her strength to finally squeeze the car into the parking space. Just as she stepped out, she spotted Ye Hua and Yang Lan standing across from her, their eyes scrutinizing both her and the vehicle.
Ye Hua walked over, gently stroking the car’s sleek body with a look of pure enjoyment. Her words, laced with sarcasm, came forth: “Attorney Lu, you’re not one of those billionaire heiresses from TV dramas, hiding your identity to experience ordinary life, are you? This Bugatti model is a limited edition—only five exist worldwide. No one in the country has managed to get one yet.”
Lu Yao knew little about cars. She’d assumed Zhou Luoxi had rented one for his trip to the capital, never imagining he’d actually have a luxury car shipped over. She shook her head, feeling awkward as she gazed at the flawless lines of the vehicle.
“This is just a luxury car I rented for twenty thousand a day,” Lu Yao replied after thinking it over, finding this excuse the most reasonable. “Since I’m reporting to the Ye Group today, I wanted to make a bit of a show, keep up appearances. After all, I can’t let President Ye lose face, right?”
At her words, Yang Lan and Ye Hua snorted in amusement.
Yang Lan’s gaze swept over Lu Yao with contempt, her laughter sharp: “Ha, Attorney Lu, you always seem so plain and elegant, content and reliable—a down-to-earth sort of person. I never expected you’d be into these flashy, superficial things.”
Lu Yao merely smiled, pleased her improvised excuse had been convincing enough. Above all, keeping her identity concealed was crucial. As for impressions, she had no need to prettify herself in front of Yang Lan.
“Since this is the Ye Group, it’s understandable you’d want to make an entrance,” Ye Hua said, her eyes mocking as she surveyed Lu Yao’s ordinary professional attire. She chuckled and retorted, “But those clothes don’t match the car. If you want to put on a show, you should do it thoroughly. I have a few outdated designer outfits I was planning to throw away as trash—why not pass them on to you?”
Trash?
Hmph, wasn’t that just another way of mocking her as a scavenger?
Lu Yao had to admit Yang Lan and her daughter had mastered the art of snide remarks, unrivaled in the capital city.
She maintained her smile, replying lightly, “Thank you for your kind offer, Miss Ye. But I’d best decline. Your figure is unmatched—those clothes would be wasted on me.”
“That’s true. There’s no one else in the capital with a figure like mine,” Ye Hua said, delighted by Lu Yao’s compliment, striking a pose.
Yang Lan’s eyes darkened slightly. “Attorney Lu, you have a real knack for conversation. No matter how unpleasant the words, you keep your composure. Adaptable and resilient—a person destined for great things. No wonder my husband let himself be so easily won over by you.”
Lu Yao kept smiling. “Thank you for the praise.”
“I wasn’t praising you,” Yang Lan retorted, dropping all pretense as she moved closer, raising her hand as if to slap Lu Yao. Fortunately, Lu Yao reacted swiftly, grabbing her wrist.
“Don’t think I don’t know what’s on your mind,” Yang Lan said. From the moment she first met Lu Yao, she’d harbored suspicions about Lu Yao’s motives for approaching the Ye Group. After considering every possibility, she’d concluded Lu Yao intended to seduce the much older Ye Yingtang and replace her as mistress of the house.
Lu Yao released Yang Lan’s hand, smiling coldly. “Madam Ye, you truly are remarkable, guessing at my passionate wish to devote myself to the Ye Group.”
“Tch.” Yang Lan sneered. “Don’t get too pleased with yourself. The moment I catch you slipping, I’ll make sure you’re thrown out of the Ye Group.”
