“I…”
Lu Yao realized she had nearly been drawn into revealing something and immediately closed her mouth. She pushed away Ye Zehong, who had her cornered, and said with open disdain, “You were the one who asked for a breakup. Now people wanting to pursue me are lined up in a long queue. You cannot simply cut in. Everything has to follow the proper order.”
At her words, the corners of Ye Zehong’s mouth curved into a smile. Playing along, he asked, “Then what number am I? I’m so handsome—surely cutting ahead a little wouldn’t be too much?”
“Dream on.”
When Lu Yao reached out to shove him, he seized the chance to draw her into his arms and lowered his head to press a kiss to her forehead.
Lu Yao froze for a moment, then noticed with alarm that the curtains on the glass windows had not been drawn. She gave him a quick push and said tensely, “Don’t be reckless. If anyone sees us, gossip will spread at once.”
Ye Zehong bent again and kissed her once more, his voice laced with quiet dominance. “What is there to fear? Anyone who dares speak out of turn will find themselves without a job.”
Lu Yao smiled in sudden understanding. “Oh my, learning to play the domineering CEO now, are we?”
In the office the two of them traded soft words, the atmosphere warm and sweet, the earlier distance and reserve already gone.
…
Inside Ye Hua’s office.
The moment Ye Hua returned she swept every document from the desk onto the floor in a fury, then snatched up a water glass and hurled it down as well.
She smashed everything within reach into chaos, yet the rage in her heart refused to ease.
Yang Lan stepped forward, caught her hands, and tried to stop her. “Hua, don’t be so angry. Whatever your father does, try not to take it so much to heart. Your chief task now is to hold your high position firmly within the Ye Corporation so that, when the time comes, you can help Zemao claim the place of next leader.”

At those final words Ye Hua seized the golf club beside her and brought it down on Yang Lan in a frenzy.
She roared, “Mother, leave me. I want to be alone.”
Yang Lan stared in stunned disbelief at the daughter who had struck her in such a mad outburst. Only after a long moment did she recover. Anger darkened her face, yet she did not lose control.
Instead, her expression turned cold and ugly. “Very well. This time I cannot persuade you. Reflect carefully on your own.”
With that she stormed out.
The door had scarcely closed when Ye Hua snatched up the stapler and flung it against the wood, letting out a raw, wordless cry.
Her eyes, full of hatred, fixed on the family portrait lying on the floor. Seeing Yang Lan linked arm-in-arm with Ye Zemao, both smiling so happily, only deepened her fury.
She picked up the frame, removed the photograph, and with a utility knife slashed viciously across Ye Zemao’s face.
His head was instantly split in two.
Even that failed to quiet the storm inside her. She found her phone and dialed a number.
The call was answered at once.
“Miss, what are your orders?”
“The arrangements I had you make last time may begin now. I will ensure the third brother appears at the appointed hour. After that, proceed exactly as planned.”

“Are you certain you wish to act at this moment? He is your own younger brother.”
“I have treated him as a true brother. Has he ever treated me as a true sister?”
Ye Hua finished her roar, hung up, and hurled the phone away with all her strength.
Every member of the Ye family who had provoked her would pay. Not one of them would escape unscathed.
She had prepared long in advance, crafting a precise punishment for each of them. The moment anyone enraged her, the plan would be set in motion.
Only Ye Zehong still lay beyond her full control.
And now there was Lu Yao as well. She would have to consider carefully how to make Lu Yao taste the consequences of angering her.
She would never allow Lu Yao a happy ending.
Lu Yao must die.
Ye Hua picked up the phone once more and dialed another number.
The voice on the other end sounded distinctly displeased. “Calling at this hour? How inconsiderate.”
