Chapter 151: Why Bother with Such Moral Scruples

Lu Yao struggled to open her eyes, but the glare was so harsh that they failed to adjust at once.
Dazed, she watched two tall figures approach. Enduring the discomfort, she shouted, “I heard everything you just said. If you let me go, I’ll pay you double the commission!”
Upon hearing this, Sang Biao let out a cold laugh.
He leaned in, crouched before Lu Yao, lifted her chin, and examined her closely. With a disdainful curl of his lips, he said, “You’re just a little lawyer. How could you possibly come up with two hundred million? You can fool anyone but me, the smartest man alive!”
His companion grew more and more lustful as he stared at Lu Yao, practically itching to have his way with her then and there.
Unfortunately, their employer had specifically ordered them not to lay a finger on her. Otherwise, he would have already…
“You may have heard that I’m Ye Zehong’s woman. Two hundred million is nothing to the heir of the Ye family,” Lu Yao said. Once her eyes had adjusted to the intense light, she realized that both men were still wearing masks and caps, revealing only their eyes. “If you think two hundred million is too little, I can have him pay you one billion. All you have to do is get me home safely.”
One billion?
That amount was indeed tempting.
Sang Biao had no interest in women. He only cared about money.
When he heard Lu Yao promise him one billion, his heart began to race.

His companion, however, poured cold water on the idea. “These days, you can’t trust a woman’s word. Trust a woman, and you might as well expect a boar to climb a tree! Don’t believe anything she says. You’ll end up getting cheated while helping her count the money.”
“Every word I’ve said is true. I can even transfer two hundred million to you as a deposit—but only after you take me somewhere safe. Once we get there, you can call Ye Zehong. He’ll transfer the money to you immediately.” Seeing how obsessed Sang Biao was with money, Lu Yao continued, “You shouldn’t have thrown my phone away in the first place. Otherwise, I could transfer it to you right now.”
At her words, both men stared intently at Lu Yao’s face. Their silence suggested that they were weighing whether to pursue this unexpected fortune.
Sang Biao could not shake the unease in his heart.
He had a feeling that this mission might not go as smoothly as he had imagined.
What unsettled him most was the way Lu Yao looked back at them. There was not the slightest trace of fear in her eyes. Instead, her gaze was sharp and filled with murderous intent.
Ordinarily, when an ordinary woman realized she had been kidnapped, her first reaction would be to beg, cry, and panic. Lu Yao, however, was entirely different. Not only was she unafraid, she was calmly negotiating with them.
This woman seemed more like someone trained to fight.
Sang Biao’s expression darkened. He pulled a folding knife from his clothes and tapped its gleaming, razor-sharp blade against Lu Yao’s cheek.
Lu Yao did not move an inch. Her eyes remained fixed on the kidnapper.
In truth, her palms were already slick with cold sweat.

The kidnapper said nothing. He merely stared at Lu Yao in silence, the cold folding knife pressed against her cheek until it grew warm.
Amid the suffocating silence, Lu Yao spoke softly. “Surely I don’t need to tell you which is the better deal: ten million or one billion. You’re both after money, so why bother clinging to what little conscience you have?”
Lu Yao’s words completely swayed Sang Biao.
He withdrew the folding knife and said to his companion, “When we get the one-billion ransom, you take thirty percent and I take seventy. You leave the country with three hundred million. I’ll stay behind with seven hundred million.”
At this, Lu Yao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She had thought she might escape the crisis after all, but then—
The moment his companion heard how Sang Biao intended to divide the spoils, he pulled a weapon from behind him and aimed the muzzle at Sang Biao.
Furious, he said, “Sang Biao, have some decency. Why do you get seventy when I only get thirty?”
