Chapter 133: The Incompetent Young Commander (Part 3)
Lu Han glanced at the Evil Wind Beast and his eyelids twitched. The creature was now several times its usual size; aside from its head and tail, the meter-long beast had actually swallowed an entire leg of a Black Wind Wolf.
"You gluttonous snake, you’ll choke yourself to death sooner or later!" Lu Han thought.
The Evil Wind Beast slithered slowly under the table, patted its belly with its tail, and said with satisfaction, "This is the kind of snake life I’ve always wanted!"
Just as Lu Han was about to enjoy the rest of his meal, Wu Yong’s ill-timed voice rang out.
"Brother Lu, your pet snake really needs some discipline. Look, this young lady hasn't even eaten yet, and that beast has finished it all off. What kind of decorum is this?" Wu Yong’s face was full of indignation, as if the Evil Wind Beast had eaten his own food.
Lu Han’s expression remained unchanged. He ignored him and continued eating.
"This young commander really doesn't treat himself as an outsider."
Paying no attention to Lu Han, Wu Yong turned to the mysterious woman with a fawning smile. "Miss, it seems your mood has been ruined by this beast. Why not come with me to our Bloodthirsty Mercenary Group? Our cook is even better than the one here, and I guarantee it will suit your palate. Later, I can take you sightseeing around Beast Town. If you wish to return home, I would be happy to escort you myself. How about we leave right now?"
Without waiting for the mysterious woman’s reaction, Wu Yong stood up and reached for her hand.
Watching this, Lu Han couldn't help but shake his head. He didn't know how strong the mysterious woman truly was, but he was certain she hadn't used her full strength during the battle at Yangshu Hill.
"You’re truly trading your life for a bit of lust. You dare to touch the plumage of a True Phoenix," Lu Han muttered to himself.
The Evil Wind Beast chuckled wickedly in its mind: "This buffoon actually dares to provoke her? If she revealed her true status, this idiot young commander wouldn't have enough lives to die ten times over. And he dares call Master Evil Wind a beast? Damn it, has he ever seen such a noble beast? I want to see how he dies."
The surrounding onlookers wore expressions of pity. This was Wu Yong’s usual modus operandi. Any girl he took an interest in within Beast Town—provided she lacked a powerful background—would eventually be dragged back to the Bloodthirsty Mercenary Group by any means necessary, where most would be played with until they died. How could this young couple stand against that pack of wolves?
Wu Yong was incredibly excited. The fairy-like woman was about to return to his group with him, and then...
"Once you're in my Bloodthirsty Mercenary Group, can you ever really leave? Haha, I just wonder if this brat knows how to play along. If he leaves now, I might be in a good enough mood to let him go. But if he doesn't know what’s good for him, Beast Town will simply have one more corpse of a 'young talent' to dispose of," Wu Yong thought.
Just as Wu Yong’s hand touched the woman’s fair, slender wrist, a cold, sharp rebuke emanated from her lips. Everyone in the restaurant felt as if they had suddenly been plunged into the dead of winter.
"Get lost!"
The entire restaurant felt like an ice cellar.
"She clearly doesn't have any cultivation base, so how could she do this?" someone asked in astonishment.
Others’ eyes lit up, as if they had realized something, but they kept it to themselves.
Wu Yong suffered the worst. Since he was closest to her—and given that his natural talent was poor and his training lazy, having only reached the seventh level of the Houtian realm through his father’s help—the woman’s cold shout startled him so badly that he fell flat on his backside.
The surrounding crowd watched this and covered their mouths to hide their laughter, but no one dared to make a sound. If Wu Yong marked them, their days in Beast Town would become very difficult.
Wu Yong scrambled up in a panic, adjusted his headscarf, and wore a sour expression. "I was actually scared by a woman with no cultivation? Hmph, how dare you refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit! There is no woman I, Wu Yong, cannot have."
"Hmph, come with me!" Wu Yong’s face twisted with malice, and he lunged forward.
"Slap!" A crisp sound echoed through the entire restaurant.
The people who had been whispering about Wu Yong falling down went instantly silent, their breathing shallow.
"What happened?" someone whispered, breaking the silence.
"This woman is truly fierce, but this will only make Wu Yong more furious. How irrational," another said.
The person next to him retorted sarcastically, "Irrational? Is it rational to go back to the Bloodthirsty Mercenary Group with him?"
Wu Yong clutched his swollen cheek with his right hand, looking incredulous. "You damn bitch, you dare hit me? I took a liking to you, which is a blessing you’ve cultivated for lifetimes, and you refuse to cooperate!"
Wu Yong’s face was contorted and hideous. Since he was young, his father, Wu Qing, had pampered him, shielding him from everything. His father was well aware of his son’s actions outside, but as long as he didn't provoke anyone truly dangerous, Wu Qing would smooth things over, which had fostered Wu Yong’s current personality.
"This doesn't feel right. It looks like a fight is about to break out. Master Evil Wind can’t afford such trouble right now. Better to hide far away and watch."
With a "whoosh," the Evil Wind Beast slipped away. Despite having just eaten the wolf leg and growing several times larger, its speed was still incredibly fast, and it vanished in an instant.
Though Lu Han and the mysterious woman had no prior connection, and despite her cold demeanor, Lu Han felt a strange sense of familiarity whenever he looked at her—a feeling he couldn't explain.
Lu Han sighed, stood up, and placed himself between them. The mysterious woman looked at Lu Han’s back, her eyes shimmering with a complex light, though it was impossible to tell what she was thinking.
"Young Commander Wu, since she isn't willing, why force the issue and make things difficult for everyone?" Lu Han said, spreading his hands.
"Force the issue? Difficult? You brat, are you trying to play the hero? Why don't you weigh your own worth first?" Wu Yong pointed at Lu Han’s chest.
"What? She hit me and you think you can just leave? I am not an unreasonable man. I can overlook the fact that she hit me today if she comes to my group to accompany me for a few days. That settles it. I’m already making a huge concession. If you don't know what’s good for you, I’ll have my men invite you back to the Bloodthirsty Mercenary Group. Once we invite you, leaving won't be so easy," Wu Yong continued.
Seeing Lu Han silent, Wu Yong felt smug, assuming Lu Han was afraid of him.
"Tch, so much for a 'genius' at the first level of the Xiantian realm; he doesn't even dare to breathe loud in front of me."
Wu Yong’s tone suddenly softened: "Kid, you aren't close to this girl, so there’s no need to throw your life away. Let me take her, and I’ll give you a generous sum of money. How about that?"
Wu Yong was confident. He believed no one would refuse such an offer.
