Chapter 115: Manhattan
“Brother-in-law, are we really going to live in that woman’s house?” Qin Han caught up to Lin Feng, his face full of frustration as he asked.
“Are you afraid she’ll eat you?” Lin Feng shrugged indifferently.
“I’m afraid she’ll eat you!” Qin Han muttered, pouting. “Can’t you see that woman has feelings for you? Even though you’re my brother-in-law and you’ve been nice to me these past few days, if you do anything to betray my sister, I won’t let you off easily. And, well, that woman might look decent, but my sister is way prettier, and besides…”
“Stop!” Lin Feng quickly cut him off, sensing Qin Han was about to launch into another long speech. “You’re overthinking it. The only reason I agreed to stay there is to save money. Although I have some recognition back home, the reality is, I’m just a professional basketball player about to lose my job, and I’m broke…”
“Hmm, if you really don’t want to stay there, you can find a hotel yourself. Fine, that’s settled.” Lin Feng patted Qin Han’s shoulder lightly and hurried after Lin Wen and Shen Mengfei.
“Brother-in-law, wait for me… I never said I definitely wouldn’t stay…” Qin Han called after him.
…
Manhattan, Sixth Avenue.
Shen Mengfei’s apartment was right here. It was a duplex, about two hundred eighty square meters spread over two floors.
“Mengfei, you’re so rich to have such a big place right in the heart of Manhattan,” Lin Wen marveled as they stepped inside.
Manhattan was the economic and cultural hub of New York State and even the entire United States. Here stood the world’s financial center, Wall Street; the iconic Times Square, known as the crossroads of the world; the Empire State Building, Broadway; even the United Nations headquarters was located here.
Additionally, the home court of the New York Knicks, Madison Square Garden, was also nearby, just on Eighth Avenue.
In short, Shen Mengfei’s apartment was perfectly situated. Of course, in a place where every inch of land was precious, such an apartment must have cost tens of millions of dollars.
“I’ll stay upstairs with Wenwen. You two gentlemen can stay downstairs,” Shen Mengfei assigned the rooms, then took Lin Wen upstairs. “Wenwen, I’ll show you your room.”
“Great! Great!” Lin Wen cheered and happily followed her upstairs.
Watching the two of them go, Qin Han looked frustrated and said to Lin Feng, “Brother-in-law, I feel like Shen Mengfei is using a roundabout strategy. She wants to win over your family first, then you. Look at Wenwen — their relationship is even closer than hers and mine…”
Lin Feng glanced at Qin Han. “Are you very bored in America?”
“Uh, I guess so.” Qin Han didn’t understand why Lin Feng asked and replied casually.
“I guess you’re pretty bored and often read web novels, right? Otherwise, how could your imagination be so vivid!” Lin Feng patted Qin Han’s shoulder and dragged his luggage to choose a room.
“Oh, by the way, next time you read novels, remember to check out ‘Sports Superstar.’ It’s a good one,” Lin Feng called back from the doorway.
…
After settling their luggage, Lin Wen suddenly mentioned she wanted to meet up with some classmates. A few of her friends just happened to be in Manhattan, so they arranged to have dinner together.
Qin Han stubbornly insisted on going with Lin Wen, saying he was worried about her going out alone.
Lin Feng shared that concern and sided with Qin Han this time, letting him accompany Lin Wen to the gathering.
Once they left, only Lin Feng and Shen Mengfei remained in the apartment.
“Let’s go out for dinner too. After sitting on a plane all day, I’m starving,” Shen Mengfei said, rubbing her stomach with a playful and charming expression.
“Sure, my treat. Thanks, Ms. Shen, for letting us stay here,” Lin Feng smiled.
“Great! Since someone’s paying, I’m going all out!” Shen Mengfei teased, grinning mischievously.
“No problem, as long as you don’t mind making this unemployed player bleed financially, I don’t care!” Lin Feng shrugged.
“Ha! Don’t think I’ll go easy on you just because you’re playing the pity card,” Shen Mengfei said firmly. “Let’s go, I’m starving.”
Lin Feng nodded, and the two of them left the apartment together.
Manhattan was far more bustling than Yanjing; everywhere they looked, towering skyscrapers pierced the clouds.
“No wonder it’s the world’s economic center,” Lin Feng murmured in awe. It was his first time in New York, so he was curious about everything.
“This is probably the busiest place in all the US. Is it your first time in New York?” Shen Mengfei asked, surprised.
Lin Feng nodded. “First time.”
“Then how about this beautiful tour guide showing you around? Times Square, the Empire State Building, Wall Street, Broadway, Carnegie Hall, or even Madison Square Garden, where you might one day compete?” Shen Mengfei smiled lightly, her clear eyes sparkling like a spring.
Undeniably, Shen Mengfei was a devastating beauty. Although Lin Feng was focused, her charm still stirred something in his heart when he wasn’t paying attention.
“Caught by my beauty, huh?” Seeing Lin Feng staring blankly, Shen Mengfei blushed slightly and teased.
“Just thinking,” Lin Feng replied awkwardly with a smile. “Then let’s go to Madison Square Garden. I’ve only seen it on TV before; this time I want to see it in person.”
“Great! I happen to know a really good restaurant over there,” Shen Mengfei smiled and hailed a taxi.
Inside the cab, Shen Mengfei enthusiastically introduced the buildings and sights along the street, acting like a professional tour guide.
Just as the taxi neared Madison Square Garden, Lin Feng received a call from Walker.
“Hey, Lin, you in New York yet?”
“Yes, just arrived. Haven’t had a chance to tell you.”
“Oh, great. Where are you now? Can you get to Madison Square Garden within two hours?”
“I think I’m already outside Madison Square Garden. I was planning to sightsee.”
“Oh my god, that’s awesome! Where exactly? I’ll come find you right away.”
“Uh, I think this is…” Lin Feng looked out the window. “Should be the West Plaza.”
“Okay, wait for me in front of the west gate.”
Walker ended the call.
“Looks like I won’t be getting that big meal,” Shen Mengfei joked, disappointed.
“Seems so,” Lin Feng shrugged. “Harris’s agent called me. I guess it’s about the tryout.”
“Alright then, I’ll just starve and keep you company,” Shen Mengfei said softly.
