Volume One: The Lich Cataclysm Chapter 141: Wangshu Finally Attains the Dao, Reborn Anew
Seeing this, Chang Xi could not help but be overwhelmed with grief, ceaselessly calling out for Wangshu! Yet the deep blue light seemed devoid of any sentience or thought, as if Wangshu’s spirit had vanished entirely. It slowly ascended, receiving the essence of the Dao and the Netherworld as it rose. With each upward movement, it grew larger, until at last it hung high above the Netherworld.
When the Nether Moon was suspended aloft, the Netherworld at last was illuminated, prompting countless souls who entered the realm of the dead to rejoice. At the same time, Granny Meng, who was brewing her medicinal soup beside the Bridge of Forgetfulness, suddenly looked up to the sky above the Netherworld, a hint of a smile appearing in her eyes.
Next, Granny Meng cast her gaze upon Chang Xi, who was held still by Pingxin. Chang Xi’s emotions flowed freely; she herself did not notice that as she kept calling for Wangshu, the tears staining her face shifted from moon-white to deep blue.
Witnessing this, Granny Meng softly murmured, “Perhaps this is your destined opportunity.” The souls beside her seemed oblivious to her actions and words, remaining silent and unmoving.
As Granny Meng’s words faded, a wisp of ghostly light flashed from her and landed upon Chang Xi, unnoticed by anyone. When the blue tears on Chang Xi’s face reached a certain intensity, they ceased changing, instead soaring straight toward the Nether Moon high above.
“What is this!” Chang Xi exclaimed in surprise at the anomaly.
As the blue tears reached the Nether Moon, a strand of moon-white light appeared upon it. Sensing the moon-white radiance, the tears shot toward it, but the two intertwined endlessly, unable to merge.
The robed Daoist atop Mount Buzhou sighed, “Perhaps this is fate.”
With a wave of his hand, a strange laurel tree appeared before him. He traced with his right hand, opening a spatial portal, and sent it through. In the next moment, Pingxin and Chang Xi saw a whirlpool appear upon the Nether Moon, and a laurel tree, moon-white tinged with deep blue, suddenly emerged.
As soon as the laurel appeared, the moon-white light found its haven and merged into the tree. The blue tears also fell upon the laurel, and in the next instant, the laurel blossomed with deep blue radiance.
It swiftly landed atop the Nether Moon, took root, and sprouted. Every minute, it grew several yards, until it occupied half the Nether Moon and stopped growing.
Now, the laurel had completely turned deep blue, losing its moon-white hue, resembling an icy sculpture. The laurel upon the Nether Moon was deep blue, like jade.
When the laurel had fully grown, Chang Xi and Pingxin saw a figure emerge from it. Chang Xi was astonished. “That’s—!” she muttered in disbelief as the figure erupted with immense power, which she and Pingxin could sense even at a great distance.
Pingxin reacted swiftly, linking the Six Paths of Reincarnation and sealing the area. Partly to prevent others from spying, partly to protect the countless souls within the Netherworld.
“Her Highness is safe—she succeeded!” Chang Xi cried, tears of joy streaming down her face. It was as if she herself had attained enlightenment, not Wangshu.
After a long while, Chang Xi felt Wangshu’s aura fade. With Wangshu’s enlightenment, nearly ten thousand acres of merit coalesced atop the Nether Moon. A portion settled on the blue laurel, two parts entered the Nether Moon, softening its glow and bathing the souls entering the Netherworld, rendering them more cohesive and pure.
Two parts flew directly toward Pingxin and Chang Xi, who split them equally. Pingxin lightly brushed her hand, sending her share to Chang Xi, leaving her with two parts of the merit. The remaining portion settled upon Wangshu, now enlightened, forming a golden wheel of merit.
At this moment, Wangshu appeared before Chang Xi. She looked reborn, utterly transformed from before—no longer melancholic, but smiling, her beauty enhanced.
“I originally wished to grant you a fateful opportunity, so you could witness an enlightenment, perhaps aiding your cultivation. Who would have thought it would become my own opportunity, proving how mysterious fate truly is.”
Wangshu gazed at Chang Xi with complexity and delight, her heart full of emotion.
If one could live, who would willingly abandon life? Perhaps it was this ordeal that brought Wangshu to complete realization; she was as if newly born. Chang Xi thought this, rejoicing for Wangshu.
“Your Highness, please don’t say that! To be able to help you is something I never dared to imagine!” Chang Xi responded in panic.
“Perhaps this is the purest part of your heart. You are indeed the most suitable to serve as the Lady of the Lunar Star,” Wangshu said cryptically, leaving Chang Xi puzzled, unable to grasp the meaning—perhaps her cultivation was lacking, perhaps her vision too limited. Yet what seemed like shortcomings were in truth her greatest strengths, the very source of her pure heart.
Wangshu smiled without further words, then patted Chang Xi’s shoulder. With a resonant tone, she said, “If you don’t break through now, when will you?”
Instantly, Chang Xi fell into a trance, entering enlightenment. Numerous truths and principles surfaced in her mind—some gained from witnessing Wangshu’s enlightenment, some from her devotion to the Lunar Star, some from years of cultivation.
With her epiphany, and as the world had just undergone a great transformation, the shackles of the heavenly Dao binding Chang Xi’s spirit seemed to vanish. Her comprehension of the lunar laws soared.
When all her accumulated understanding was digested, Chang Xi awoke from enlightenment. Her mastery of lunar laws reached the minor achievement stage, and her cultivation advanced to the early stage of Hunyuan Golden Immortal.
Wangshu, sensing the latent lunar laws within Chang Xi, was deeply gratified. “Excellent! Lunar laws have reached minor achievement—truly a genius!”
Chang Xi blushed at Wangshu’s remark. “It’s all thanks to Your Highness’s guidance—otherwise, who knows when I’d be able to break through!”
Most importantly, cultivating the Dao in the current world had become nearly impossible. She had, by rare fortune, taken this step—how could she not be overjoyed?
