Chapter 126: Twilight
"Damn flies!"
The brawny Titan watched the military drones hovering persistently in the sky, spat on the ground in annoyance, and picked up several rocks to hurl at them, attempting to swat the irritating little things out of the air.
Unfortunately, he failed. To a Titan, the drones were simply too small and kept a safe distance. In the end, it was the drones that retaliated with missiles, leaving the Titan looking rather disheveled and covered in dust.
"Phoenx, stop wasting your energy."
A tall, golden-haired Titan spoke up. "These little trinkets from the Xia people, while lacking in raw destructive power, are certainly ingenious."
"Our strength has waned significantly these days. While it's not impossible to bring these toys down, it’s clearly not worth the effort. It’s better to conserve our energy and see what other tricks the Xia have up their sleeves."
"Yes, Boss!"
The Titan addressed as Phoenx acknowledged the order. After throwing the last rock in his hand, he stopped bothering with the drones.
Unlike large humanoids such as trolls or cyclopes, Titans possess high intelligence and a sophisticated social structure. They are unified, resolute, and value familial bonds. Having formed the concept of civilization in the distant past, they have long been a dominant force in the material realm, controlling many sentient species from the shadows or in the light.
"Boss, do you think the Xia might... use those things they call nuclear weapons on us?" another Titan asked, stepping closer to the blond leader with a look of concern.
"I’ve heard they’re terrifying. A single shot can destroy a city or a nation, no different from divine retribution. What’s worse is that they can be mass-produced... Can we handle that?"
"Rest assured, I’ve made preparations. I certainly won’t let you lose your life," the blond Titan said with absolute confidence. "Don't overestimate the Xia. Even if they have some decent methods, they are, after all, merely low-level life forms. How could they easily threaten us, the great Titans?"
"Heh... these foreign Xia are arrogant. Relying on their defensive barriers and their flashy weapons, they don't just look down on us Titans; they have no reverence for the gods either. They act as if they are the only ones who are pure while the rest of the world is corrupt, as if they want to make enemies of everyone. Even in our prime, we were never this insufferable!"
"The gods are still holding back, afraid of collateral damage, so they haven't touched the Xia yet. But we Titans, the great and noble Titans, won’t indulge them. Since they are an eyesore, we must strike them down hard, teach them a painful lesson, and force them to abide by the rules of this world!"
"That may be true... but what if we push them too far and they decide to drag us down with them?"
"That would be perfect!" the blond Titan declared with a booming voice. "If the Xia truly have the capability, let them smash this world to pieces with their nuclear weapons. After all, the Titan race has shattered more than one world in the past; we thrive in wastelands!"
"The boss is right!" Phoenx nodded vigorously. "This world hasn't been kind to us anyway; it even stripped away our title of 'Gods,' clearly unwilling to share the power of dominion with us!"
"Since that’s the case, why should we care? At worst, we all go down together!"
"I like that. If we’re going to play, let’s play big!"
"It’s high time for a Ragnarök. In the past, others brought the twilight upon us; it's only fair that it’s our turn to bring the twilight upon them!"
"So... we haven't been ruthless enough with the Xia. We should push them harder, force them to reveal their trump cards, and watch them perish along with this world and those gods!"
...
The Titans chatted heatedly. They had traveled thousands of miles to cause trouble for the Xia, and it was certainly not without their own calculations.
"Dragons are flying toward us!" the lookout Titan shouted suddenly, not with nervousness, but with excitement.
After all, there were ten of them, all in their prime as adult Titans. They didn't fear a couple of dragons—even if ten or twenty came, they wouldn't flinch.
Hunting dragons was a long-standing tradition for the Titans. It was always the dragons who feared the Titans, never the other way around! Thus, to the lookout, these two suicidal dragons flying toward them were clearly seeking their own deaths—they were coming to serve as an extra meal!
...
"Mr. Dius, we can't get any closer. The Titans have powerful ranged capabilities; they are exceptionally skilled at throwing javelins!"
With over ten kilometers still separating them from the Titans, the Red Dragon was already highly tense and hurriedly warned the Black Dragon.
In her view, ten Titans were an immense threat. Even if twenty more dragons joined them, they might not be a match for these Titans. After all, the execution, discipline, and unity of dragons were... well, best left unsaid.
In truth, a dragon might not lose in a one-on-one duel with a Titan, but once the numbers increased, the combat effectiveness of the Titans rose sharply, while that of the dragons plummeted catastrophically.
"I know."
Huang Ze replied, though the temperature within his body was rising steadily. It was as if an engine were being preheated, a nameless, burning rage awakening every organ and every cell, soon to erupt with terrifying energy.
Huang Ze struggled to control the surging battle intent in his body. He didn't impulsively shout, "I'll take on ten of you!" and dive down to fight the Titans in a frenzy. Instead, he began to carefully assess his opponents.
Looking at them, the Titans were undoubtedly the more perfect biological specimens. They looked much like humans, only more brawny and handsome, with almost no physical flaws—they looked like true gods!
Huang Ze had encountered angels before and couldn't help but compare them. He found that while angels might be more perfect in appearance and aura, in terms of sheer presence and vitality, these Titans were clearly more impressive.
"Why do I feel... like I might actually be able to overpower these guys?"
He wasn't sure if it was an illusion, but Huang Ze vaguely felt that these Titans posed limited threats to him. If he dived in, he might just be able to take them down on the sly.
However, Huang Ze was not an impulsive man—he couldn't afford to be. He was the nation's only dragon, and his actions had to be cautious. If he were to mess up and die, the loss would be catastrophic!
Therefore, even with his battle intent surging, he did not rashly dive down to let off steam. Instead, he contacted the military, asking them to send over a few tactical nuclear missiles to warm up the stage.
