Chapter 102: Sister, Boldly Move Forward Without Hesitation【Esteemed Readers, Kindly Consider Subscribing】
“Everyone, do not look back…”
At a moment like this, Rogers displayed his exceptional psychological resilience.
He signaled through the earpiece for everyone to keep moving forward.
As long as I don’t acknowledge them, these people don’t exist.
“Understood, Captain.”
The group followed closely behind Bucky, ignoring the myriad gazes fixed on their backs in the hall. Each member of the new Avengers team remained fully alert, their senses sharpened to respond to any sudden attack.
Only after they weaved through the crowd and turned into the corridor did they allow themselves to breathe a little easier.
Entering another hall from the corridor, the crowd grew denser. Bucky led the way, and the people naturally parted to create a path, their hollow eyes tracking the group’s retreating figures.
With no hormonal feedback, the Purple Man’s mind spiraled with grim conjectures, his tension mounting even more than before. He felt as if he were wandering through a vast, eerie tomb, nearly succumbing to disorientation.
“Stay composed, Zebediah.”
Rogers fell into step beside the Purple Man and, through the linked earpieces, directed the others.
Whether it was Blade or Moon Knight, all sensed something was amiss.
Blade, having dealt with vampires frequently, experienced a chilling sense of déjà vu.
He felt as though he had entered a massive vampire lair, permeated with sinister dread. Dark corners seemed to harbor countless predatory beasts, their cruel, venomous eyes silently watching them.
Instinctively, Blade’s hand went to the hilt of his sword.
“Steady, Brooks.”
Rogers, too, felt the tension but knew this was the enemy’s stronghold. The odd atmosphere in the crowd only strengthened his resolve to complete the mission.
After turning into another corridor, the team finally had a chance to communicate.
“These people seem controlled… my powers are ineffective, Captain,” the Purple Man reported immediately.
“You’re facing a challenge, Zebediah. The enemy also has a superpowered psychic.”
“What do we do? My ability requires physical contact with their skin.”
“When the fight begins, we’ll create openings for you. Bucky will get you close to the target. Once you control Natasha, the enemy’s numbers will actually become our greatest advantage.”
Given the circumstances, Rogers altered the plan on the fly.
He saw controlling Natasha’s mind as the key variable and thus prioritized neutralizing her.
If they could subdue Natasha, they could easily take over the entire mothership and command all the Hydra soldiers under her control.
Taking out Natasha alone would be like eliminating every Hydra soldier on the ship.
Just as she controlled Barton.
While Bucky and the Purple Man focused on Natasha, Rogers and Blade, along with Moon Knight, would simultaneously secure Hill and Pierce. Then, upon sending a signal, Falcon and Spider-Woman would arrive immediately.
The only regret was Thor’s absence.
---
In the mothership’s command center, Hill watched the screen displaying Rogers and his team, including the revised tactical plan relayed through Bucky.
She nodded toward Zazalla, disguised as Natasha.
“The plan can commence, Spider-Mother.”
Zazalla nodded and then vanished.
Meanwhile, through the cameras on Rogers and his team and Falcon’s intelligence, Nick Fury gained insight into the mothership’s situation.
But the sight enraged him: everyone aboard wore Hydra uniforms. The hoped-for scene hadn’t appeared; apart from Rogers’ group, no S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were present.
“Damn Hydra… All of them… damn it!”
Fury sensed something was wrong.
He had expected a certain outcome, but reality was far beyond his predictions.
“Coulson, execute Plan B.”
His gaze flickered as he conveyed new orders to his most trusted subordinate.
“Yes, Director.”
---
After finalizing their strategy in the corridor, Rogers’ group swiftly changed formation.
Ahead, Hill’s figure was faintly visible, but the situation differed from earlier.
Just as Rogers cautiously advanced with his shield, Hydra agents at the corridor entrance struck.
“Screech—”
The silent mothership seemed to boil as a dozen Hydra agents howled fiercely and charged.
“Bucky, now!”
Rogers crouched, raising his shield overhead, and Bucky leapt up, vaulting over the shield, crossing his arms over his chest. Mid-air, he spun and raised his metal arm, smashing down hard onto Rogers’ shield.
“Clang—”
The loud impact sent a shockwave rushing down the corridor, blasting the linear line of Hydra agents into tatters.
“Well done!”
Rogers swung his shield again, smashing one controlled Hydra agent in half at the waist, then ricocheting the shield swiftly to dispatch the remaining enemies before catching it once more.
The title “Corridor Warlord” was well earned.
“Hey, Captain, if we knew a brute-force break-in was needed, why bother sneaking in?” Blade grinned, firing a large revolver to take down several attackers, then drawing his twin blades. The silver flashes cut through the corridor with deadly precision.
“Wipe them all out, and it’s a successful infiltration.”
“Bang—”
Suddenly, the corridor went dark as Moon Knight immediately threw his crescent blades, shattering the lighting fixtures. Phantom-like figures flickered through the shadows.
---
“I think you’re right.”
In the darkness, the advancing Hydra agents’ eyes glowed faintly, their eerie blue lights flickering up and down as they ran.
“Thump, thump, thump—” Blade quickly downed a bottle of holy water, then chewed some garlic. After a moment, he tossed small vials to Rogers and Moon Knight.
One must never be stingy; he was preparing for the worst.
“What’s this?” Rogers and Moon Knight caught the vials.
“It’s the latest holy water from the Italian Vatican—tastes like grape-flavored baby milkshake. I owe my health to it; everyone who’s tried it swears by it.”
Rogers and Moon Knight exchanged glances and followed suit, gulping down the liquid.
“How’s it feel?” Blade asked, a smile on his face.
“Tastes like rotten apple juice left for three years, but… I feel fired up.”
“Hey, guys, what about me?” The Purple Man grabbed a gun from the floor, shouting at Rogers but taking a step back.
He hadn’t gone far before Bucky appeared behind him, expression cold, tapping his shoulder with his metal arm and pointing in another direction.
“Shit, I knew this would happen.”
Resigned, the Purple Man threw the gun down and obediently followed Bucky toward the chaos.
Watching his friend being led away, Rogers raised his shield.
“Alright, team, let’s enjoy a thrilling game of stealth.”
Outside the corridor, in the mothership’s vast control hall, Rogers saw Hill directing operations. Hydra agents’ footsteps echoed from all directions.
Standing in the center, shield in hand, Rogers had Blade—wielding twin silver swords—on his left and the shadowy Moon Knight holding crescent blades on his right.
Blade swung his swords flawlessly, cutting down bullets, while Rogers blocked stray shots with his shield, and Moon Knight hurled crescent blades relentlessly.
Together, the three formed an assault formation.
“Everyone, how should we divide the targets?”
“Split them evenly?” Rogers threw his shield while ducking under fire. The shield smashed enemies before bouncing back into his grasp. “This one’s mine.”
“But… aren’t there three of us?”
Moon Knight tossed his crescent blade as well.
“Then, freestyle.”
At that moment, the trio charged forward.
Hydra agents in the hall roared and raised their weapons, firing at the advancing three.
