“Jane, I still love you.”

Thor was completely stunned.

After all, Thor was a renowned powerhouse across the Nine Realms—the God of Thunder before whom every insignificant creature surrendered at the mere sight of him.

And yet now, he had been slapped by a human from Earth.

Not only had he been slapped once straight across the face, but after his left cheek took the first blow, his right cheek received another. Three consecutive strikes had left him utterly dazed.

The hammer in his hand slipped loose and fell to the ground. Thor stared at Jane Foster, his eyes filled with disbelief.

This woman had hit me.

But I’m not angry at all.

And why is my heart beating so fast...?

Could this be love?

But what was going on? He had not even said or done anything. The moment they met, she had simply started slapping him.

He had intended to ask why, but the words that came out somehow changed completely.

“Jane, I am the God of Thunder, heir to Asgard.”

“So what if you’re the God of Thunder? Does that mean you can stand me up? Do you know how long I waited for you? Three whole months, thirteen days, and twelve minutes. Oh, no—thirteen minutes now. What an unlucky number.”

After Jane finished speaking, she raised her right hand and slapped Thor again.

“Why did you hit me again?”

Thor was even more bewildered.

“This is England. The number thirteen is considered unlucky.”

“Uh... don’t you believe in science?”

Thor was speechless.

“Compared to that, you should first explain what happened after Norway. Think about how long you made me wait. What friend could possibly be so important? Why didn’t you just stay with your friend? Why did you come looking for me?”

After the slapping came the interrogation. Jane Foster launched straight into a merciless round of questioning.

“Jane, I still love you.”

Of course, Thor silently added: They’re only friends.

Everyone in the car opened the doors and stepped out, staring at the scene in astonishment.

“Um, Jane... do you two know each other?”

Sindragosa already knew this was Thor thanks to Roald, but she deliberately asked anyway.

At the same time, Roald changed his appearance and used the Space Stone to travel to England, appearing not far from Sindragosa. He rented a room in the small town ahead.

“Yes, we know each other. I’m her boyfriend. Uh, I’m from New York.”

When someone asked, Thor immediately introduced himself, conveniently forgetting that he had just announced that he was the God of Thunder and that he came from Asgard.

“Didn’t you just say something about Asgard...?” someone from the astronomy team asked.

“Uh, I was rehearsing for a play just now. It was only a script—a script.”

Thor spun another explanation, while his outfit, with its unmistakable antiquated style, genuinely made him look like a stage actor.

“A stage actor?”

Everyone was baffled. Almost instinctively, they glanced at the crushed front end of the car.

This stage actor was certainly no ordinary man.

“Now, shut up. All of you. We’re walking to the site from here.”

Jane turned toward the car. She quickly diverted everyone’s attention, then brought out the instruments and looked at Thor.

“I have to investigate something. You can stay with the car, come with me, or go to the town ahead and drink coffee while you wait.”

“Wait for you? I couldn’t bear being apart from you for even a second. Naturally, I’m coming with you.”

Thor walked over and slung all of Jane’s equipment over his shoulders.

“Hey, Jane, I can take you there directly. It’ll be much faster than walking.”

Thor grinned happily and raised his hammer to demonstrate.

Once again, he forgot why he had needed to explain his origins in the first place.

“You really are an idiot.”

Jane naturally knew that Thor could fly. Thor truly did fly through the sky by relying on his hammer, and could even travel through space. But there were still ordinary people present, and he had to take their understanding of the world into consideration.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to take you there?”

Thor still wanted to try.

“No. The destination isn’t far from here. We’ll reach it soon enough. If everything goes smoothly, the mission will be over quickly. Before that, we need to deal with our means of transportation and let it rest for a while.”

Jane pointed at the car, whose front end had been flattened.

“All right.”

The group followed Jane toward their destination. In the town, they found an auto-repair company and decided to remain there temporarily.

From this point on, all they had to do was let the story follow its original course.

Roald had also settled in the town ahead of time, taking the room next to Sindragosa’s.

Although he had no idea where the Dark Elves were or when they would arrive, the moment the Aether appeared, the Dark Elves would make their move. And with Asgard involved, Jane had to be taken to Asgard for Roald’s plan to succeed.

In any case, the final battlefield would still be London. He only needed to retrieve the Reality Stone at the very end. For now, it would be best to let the Dark Elves cause trouble in Asgard and weaken their forces first.

At the inn, Sindragosa contacted Roald.

“Is there really nothing wrong with this plan? Will our control over Jane truly go undetected? And why aren’t you sharing a room with me? I’ve already left the door open for you.”

“...”

Roald.

That last question was obviously the real point.

“Sindragosa, although I may appear to be leading an idle, leisurely life with nothing to do, I am actually quietly contemplating the future in a state of enlightenment. It isn’t as though I’m accomplishing nothing. Even if I do nothing at all, you and Kel’Thuzad will surely take care of everything for me, won’t you?”

The First Evolution

“But more importantly, we haven’t seen each other for three whole months, thirteen days, and twelve minutes.”

“What are you implying? I’m not going to let you slap me.”

In the lobby of the only inn in the town, Roald and Sindragosa sat back-to-back, looking for all the world like secret agents meeting for a clandestine exchange.

An inexplicable aura surrounded Sindragosa, causing everyone in the lobby to shiver instinctively.

Sitting there with effortless elegance, Sindragosa pursed her lips and gently blew away the steam rising from the coffee cup in her hands. She took a small sip, narrowed her eyes slightly, and then placed the cup back on its tray with exquisite grace.

“This coffee is truly excellent. I feel that it tastes much better with you by my side,” Sindragosa said with an elegant smile.

Holding her coffee, she rose and climbed the stairs toward the upper floor of the inn. Wherever she passed, people instinctively moved aside. It was only when she reached the door of her room that Roald heard her voice, lowered slightly.

“Let us assume, for the moment, that although you appear to be leading an idle and leisurely life with nothing to do, you truly are contemplating the future in a state of enlightenment. This is your reward.”

“Also, travel is exhausting, so I ordered you a cup of coffee.”

Almost as soon as she finished speaking, a waiter who seemed to have appeared from nowhere walked straight to Roald’s table and placed a macchiato in front of him.

“Sir, this macchiato was ordered for you.”

“Congratulations, sir. A macchiato signifies a mark or a brand, and therefore symbolizes a sweet imprint. I hope you enjoy a pleasant afternoon tea here...”
