Thanos: "???"

Why did so many people suddenly appear down there?

He looked toward Ebony Maw, who stood to the left of his hand, seeking an answer. But he was destined to be disappointed. Ebony Maw was just as puzzled by the nature of the Scourge soldiers under Lold’s command, yet he did know one thing: his energy scanner had detected the presence of Infinity Stones.

"Master, there are three Infinity Stones here."

Hearing this, Thanos’s gaze sharpened instantly. If there were stones, then this was worth it.

"Ebony Maw, attack!"

"Yes, Master!"

With a simple press of a button, Ebony Maw issued the command. Outside the Bifrost’s transport zone in Asgard, the hangar doors of the Sanctuary II began to open.

"Is this the opponent we are facing?"

"Hmph, what a complete overreaction!"

Hela materialized two long swords in her hands, her tone dripping with disdain as she glared at the Sanctuary II hovering in the sky.

"Thanos is a force to be reckoned with. Though this might seem like overkill, I believe it is necessary. If all goes well, this will be my final battle in the Marvel Universe. After this, new worlds await for me to conquer!"

"New worlds?" Lold’s words caught Hela’s attention. "What kind of new worlds are you talking about?"

As they spoke, Kel'Thuzad had already summoned the Obelisk. A chilling, ethereal blue frost spread across the ground, coating the Scourge soldiers in layers of icy armor. Various spells were cast in quick succession, causing the Bifrost bridge to erupt with a brilliant display of magical radiance.

Thanos was a formidable foe, a true final boss. He deserved at least a modicum of respect. Even though Lold possessed three Infinity Stones, he dared not lower his guard, summoning every single Scourge soldier in his arsenal.

"So, are you ready for war?"

"For Asgard!"

Thor raised his hands and let out a battle cry, just as he had done in the past. Even without his hammer, the Prince of Asgard could not help but speak up.

Hela shot Thor a cold glare. Thor instinctively shrunk behind Loki. *Terrifying, absolutely terrifying.*

"Kel'Thuzad, prepare for battle!" Lold stepped to the very front of the group. He plunged Frostmourne into the ground and rested his hands on the hilt. "Since this is the choice of destiny, let the storm of fate rage even more violently!"

Lold activated all his effect cards on himself, including, but not limited to, [True King] and the energy-draining [Energy Absorption].

"???"

"What are those people doing standing down there? Are they lining up to welcome us?" Thanos asked, looking at Ebony Maw.

Based on his knowledge of Asgard, Odin should have detected his arrival long ago. Given Odin’s stature, Thanos expected to see a fleet of Asgardian ships waiting in formation. Instead, he was greeted by a crowd of rubes staring up at his ship like they had never seen one before.

It was intolerable. Thanos had never been treated like a circus attraction.

*A bunch of rabble. Today, I will teach you your place.*

As the order was given, the energy cannons on the Sanctuary II began to glow. Beams of light erupted, firing directly at Lold and his forces on the golden Bifrost. Following the bombardment, drop pods descended from the massive warship.

These jagged, mountain-like pods slammed into the ground of Asgard like raindrops. Upon impact, the doors hissed open, and waves of Thanos’s mass-produced warriors poured out.

The shock troops quickly clashed with the Scourge soldiers. Through the chaos, a path cleared in the center of Thanos’s army. Clad in his armor and accompanied by his Black Order, Thanos strode out from the dark corridor. Seeing Lold leaning on his sword, Thanos spun his double-bladed weapon, then pointed it arrogantly at him.

In response to Thanos’s arrogance, Hela unleashed a barrage of long swords.

Although Thanos had many soldiers, Lold remained unbothered; his Scourge army was no less numerous. His focus was entirely on Thanos himself. Since Asgard had not yet suffered Ragnarok, Hela was fighting on home turf, which granted her a massive advantage. Lold planned to beat Thanos to the brink of death, drain his energy with [Energy Absorption], and then seize control of him through [Mind Control] or other means.

"You? I don't know you," Thanos said, looking at Hela with confusion. Where did this woman come from?

"Hela, Queen of Asgard," she replied bluntly.

Her answer gave Thanos a moment of pause. The fact that Odin was not in Asgard was a shock, but it was quickly followed by delight. If the one person he feared was absent, who else in Asgard could possibly intimidate him? He recognized Gamora as his adopted daughter, but as for Lold and the others, they were mere fodder in his eyes.

Being ignored like this did not sit well with Hela. After having her pride bruised by Lold earlier, now a purple-skinned brute was looking down on her as well. Since when did Asgard lose its prestige?

"Where do you get your confidence?!"

Hela raised her hand, and countless long swords manifested behind her, spreading out in rings before launching like a torrential downpour toward Thanos.

Explosions rocked the Bifrost. The blades tore through the air, shredding the space behind Thanos and pinning waves of his charging soldiers to the ground. Thanos spun his double-bladed weapon rapidly, creating a defensive screen that protected both him and the members of the Black Order. Hela’s blades were deflected one after another; every attack was parried.

However, the intensity of the bombardment made it clear to Thanos that Hela was not so easily dispatched.

"This is getting interesting. I admire you. Join my ranks."

Surprisingly, Thanos stroked his chin and offered her a place at his side.

"You’re not bad yourself. Why don't you serve me instead?" Hela stood, her sword lowered, and shot the same offer back at him.
